Chapter Six

2215 Words
I felt like I was floating through space, it was neither cold nor warm. It felt as if I was being carried by water. I could feel my curls drift outward in every direction. I opened my eyes and saw nothing but darkness. Strangely enough I felt no fear, I only felt peace and acceptance. It was as if my lifelong dream had been fulfilled. “Am i dead..?” I asked softly out into the dark abyss hearing my own voice echo becoming more and more distant each time.  “ Serenity ..” a familiar womanly breathy voice whispered directly in my ear. I turned my head but still saw nothing. “Serenity” I heard another male voice on the opposite side of my head. “Serenity” the next voice spoke my name softly full of love but sounded unearthly; not of man or women. A Warmth caressed my arms and head as I became overwhelmed with euphoria. Tears arose to my eyes floating off my face in every direction into the abyss. “ Grandpa?” I asked softly. The warmth grew over my skin embarrassing me within it as if to hug me. “ Serenity..Serenity.. Serenity” what sounded like a choir of various voices began to chant my name, their voices coming from every direction echoing around me as I did so. “Do you wish to be reborn and walk the path that has been chosen for you..?” the voice that sounded like neither man nor women yet somehow i knew it to be my grandfather questioned me gently. I stayed silent for a moment listening to the multiple other voices continuing to chat my name growing louder by the second. Is this what I want? Do I want to be a real witch? I asked myself gently as I took careful consideration even though every fiber of my being ached for me to say yes. "What happens if i say no?" i questioned softly. The unearthly voice spoke slowly as if trying to hide disappointment.."Your memory will be erased..our blood line will end with you..you will not be able to access any of your abilities" taking in a deep breath i thought for a moment I could be powerful.. “Yes.. I want to walk the path.I want to be reborn...” I spoke softly as the voices abruptly stopped all at once. My ears became filled with a loud brain piercing ringing as the voices in unison spoke “ So mote it be..” . unseen hands removed a black veil from my face. I blinked my eyes rapidly to adjust to the bright different colored floating orbs. “You've made me proud, Serenity..” The unearthly voice said to me as I turned my head to see a small fleck of white light dancing around me.  The colored orbs above me began humming in unison, tingling sensations began to cover my body, paired with the now growing warmth.  The small white fleck hovered above my head as if to look down at me. it's unearthly voice began to chant  “Blessed Bird Of peace and Renewal , Dew-Drinker, Far-flyer  I Call upon you ,Teach her of grace and inspiration, Teach her of loyalty and honesty, Teach her to burn And to fly from ashes and cinders Winging skyward through the smoke REBORN AND RISING” the voices fell silent as i felt pain erupt from my very core. I gasped for air loudly and clutched my stomach. Drool poured from my mouth as blood began to seep from my nose. The other orbs began to dance around with excitement saying multiple different things at once, their voices colliding together becoming unbearable. The pain slowly creeped though my body in waves, plumbing me further from any mental clarity as I choked and gagged on my own bodily fluids. My head was submerged under the surface of the temptureless water, I began to struggle against the forces that held me down. Memories flooded my mind that did not belong to me. A set of six cloaked figures stood around a pentagram drawn into the dirt. Each figure helped a different colored tapered candle. They began to chant incoherently in unison as they reached their candles out allowing the was to drip in the center of the circle on top of what looked like a large dead bird.  Before I could grasp what was happening I was shown the cloaked figures running through moonlit woods in the dead of winter. Their feet leaving footprints as they ran one of them looked back as the wind shoved the hood from their head. Bright red hair and green eyes filled my vision as she stared back at the perpetrator. i felt as if i was staring into a mirror as I watched her eyes fill with horror. a gloved hand reached out and grasped the woman by her hair, throwing her to the snow covered ground as some of the angry mob gathered around her crumbled figure, while the rest kept chasing the others. A red eyed black feathered hawk swooped down in the darkness plucking out of the one mob members eyeball causing a few others to scream. as the red haired woman was filled with laughter. “ You can kill me, but you will never.. Ever stop what is in my blood. DO YOU HEAR ME!” she yelled through her laughter. She didn't bother putting up a fight as she was being tied up with rough rope. Five clocked figures stood in the shadows as they watched their sibling walk calmly to the wooden stake allowing her hands to be tied behind her back. “Any last words, Heretic?” a bystander asked mockingly as he approached her, flaming torch in hand "not so powerful now are you!" a villager from the crowd shouted while others cheered for the red heads demise.  the redhead gazed into the crowd, a smirk growing upon her pale face before she spoke “ i cast this spell into the night! To bind my enemies and limit their fight!” she yelled at the crowd, torch holder seemingly frozen in position. “ By earth, by water, by wind , by fire, I wish to stop their evil desires. the evil words and actions they spread will only cause them to feel great dread!” she yelled as some women in the crowd cried out  “Someone stop her!” the redhead prisoner smiled before continuing “To lead this fight against their deeds as i will it! So mote it be!” flames spread through the crowd burning the mob to a crisp. The flames from the torch jumped downwards into its holder as he screamed in agony and dropped to the ground next to the pile of dried hay at the spellcaster's feet. I could feel the burning pain as I watched the rising flames lick on to her feet and climb up her cloak engulfing her in flames as she laughed hysterically. The five clock figures ran out from the shadows grabbing the mob's horses before the flames spread to the isolated village. Millions of memories bomb barded me one after the other. I watched as each one of the cloaked figures met a similar demise as the first. Leaving a trail of death in their wake. A lone man stood outside of a cabin in the woods early morning sun rays catching his red hair as he laid bundles of flowers and sage upon a stone pedestal that held carvings of his fallen brothers and sister names. I could feel as his fingers touched the smooth surface warmed by the sun as he traced the names with his fingers. “Willam” a womens soft voice called from the door. She had long brown hair  tied up in a hair covering and bright blue eyes, her full pink lips pulled into an innocent smile as she rested her hand upon her swollen stomach. “Do you mind going to town dear? We need some more flour.” she asked him softly. I felt my own heart fill with joy as did Williams when he gazed into his pregnant wife. “Yes dear.. I'll leave straight away.” she gave him a small nod before retreating back into the small cabin. The vision faded slowly as I could now hear the continued loud chanting of the voices “So mote it be, “Blessed be”. The white fleck of light spoke to me with a dimming voice “it is up to you now, serenity. Go forth and learn the ways of our bloodline. Carry on our family name proudly and armor yourself with knowledge and strength of your new abilities…” The voice trailed off as the light dwindled and vanished before my eyes.  The pain had subsided though I was left with a blasting headache as I felt as if I burst as the seams from all of the information that was forced upon me. My fingers twitched as my eyes slowly opened to reveal firelight dancing across the wooden shelf of crystals. slowly I sat up grasping  my head “urgnn” I groaned softly as I tried to rapidly blink away the pain. Looking down I see a glass of water next to my knees that had not been there before. Picking up the cold glass I sniffed the water first noting it did not have any smell and appeared to be in fact just water. taking a sip hesitantly, I allowed the tasteless liquid to pour into my mouth. I swallowed the water and set the glass up onto the wooden shelf before slowly standing up. I checked my wrist watch again and found it had still said it was 2:37 AM. “ Oh.. right, timeless room.. I forgot..” I could hear the Becca's faint voice as she slowly came down the basement stairs "Serenity? are you down here? i heard a lot of screaming! Hello?" The blonde called out to me. s**t I thought to myself as I hastily looked around the room. I found a brown leather messenger bag hanging on a hook on the side of the altar. I picked up the bag and opened it, finding only a few old school fountain pens. Shrugging my shoulders I began to place my family's book of shadows into the bag. Looking around the room before closing my eyes  for a moment I murmured softly to myself “only take what calls to me..”  opening my eyes I quickly grabbed various crystals, bottles of herbs and potions. Looking around I tapped my chin lightly before reaching on to the altar and grabbing the incense holder depicting a goddess decaitly placing it into the bag. I placed the bag over my shoulder and walked towards the door before turning back around looking around the room. “Blessed be..thank you'' I uttered softly before leaving the room, and maneuvered through the crawl space. "Serenity? What where you doing in a crawl space?" I gazed up at becca as she stepped down from last step. becca stared down at me, only my head peeking out from the crawl space door. s**t s**t s**t I said in my head that was still swirling with pain. "oh um.." I said softly still trying to think of what I should say. slowly I crawled completely out of the small opening sitting on my knees as i turned slightly to shut the door softly, grasping the key relocking the door before removing it and shoving it in to the front pocket of the messenger bag. "I..um.. was just getting some family heirlooms..i'm packing.." I said sheepishly with a small smile as I stood up bending down slightly to dust the rocks and dirty from my knees. Well at least i'm not lying I thought to myself before becca continued "okay...But that doesn't explain the screaming.." becca said slowly was her eyes wandered over my disheveled appearance. "Oh my god! Are you..Are you on drugs, serenity?" Becca stammered as she stared at me accusingly. "Wha-- No!" I blurted out as becca kept staring at me in disbelief. "Are you sure.. you look a little strung out.." Becca questioned as she looked down at me with a motherly expression. "What you heard was-was" I stammered softly before continuing "me continuing to grieve.. I was ugly crying..over my grandfathers' old diary.." I turned my gaze to floor, hopefully looking more convincing. Becca approached me with caution slowly grasping my soot covered hand. "Serenity, we can get you help...if you'll just admit your having a problem." I rolled my eyes growing tired of the blonds antics yanking my hand from her grasp, as I headed back towards the stairway "Believe me or not i don't have a drug problem! please leave me alone!" I stated loudly as I began to run up the steps hearing her foot fall just behind me. " Serenity, I hear lots of nurses get hooked, it doesn't make you a bad person!" I groaned loudly resisting the urge to slam the basement door on the blondes face making her fall down the steps in the process.
