"Keep this it will assist your powers to help them last." Nuala took off her jade necklace placing it in my palm before she left.
I returned to my pacing. "What was that?" I all but yelled.
"Easy, Tiona." Feathers warned, as Finn tossed in his sleep again.
"I'm sorry. But does she think she can just change her mind and leave me like that?" I was outraged. After all this time, nobody in the realm believed me, now suddenly they think I'm right.
"I know this isn't easy. You must consider her words. Your people may perish due to your actions. Consider the younglings that are much younger than you. I admit this is a task that even I would tremble with. I can not intervene with matters of the fae, however, I can still be here to lend support."
I leaned on the window glass looking out at the full moon. "Thanks, Feathers. I just don't know what I need to do."
"And you don't have to choose tonight. Go to the coffee shop tomorrow, enjoy your time with Finn. She gave you two nights to think on it. Take that time and use it to your advantage. Maybe find a way to slip in word to Finn about a travel. We need to at least start sort of preparing him for this trip."
"I'm just going to go with Finn tomorrow and see where the conversation leads. I want to be certain before I drag him into this mess."
Feathers nodded floating back to her perch on the bed post. I sat in the window resting against the wood frame. The trees swayed gently in the breeze. The animals tucked safely in their beds. Occasionally, a nearby owl would call out on his nightly hunt. I never even realized when I drifted off to sleep.
"Rise and shine sleepy head. You have some preparation to do " Feathers shook me awake.
"I'm up, I'm up." I stammered not even awake at all.
"Sure you were. Come on, you need to decide how you're going to appear to Finn."
I rubbed my pounding head. "I considered wearing my hair down. It will hide my ears, and it's at the campus coffee shop, enough strange hair colors I'll blend in."
"Let's do it then." Feathers set to work fixing my hair in a way that would look nice, and hide my pointy ears from the world. As time drew closer I became nervous.
"Feathers, is this right?"
"Tiona, what do you think?"
"Don't reverse a question on me that's my job. But, yes I do think this is right. Prophecy or no prophecy I've always been drawn to this earthling child." I waved to Feathers as I set off to travel dimensions.
"Here before you leave. Take this." Feathers gave me a small mirror. "It will appear smaller than what you may need, but at least you can fix yourself after your rough ride."
"Always a flight ahead." I walked to my favorite oak tree and began my ascent to the 5th dimension. The ride through was bumpier than last time. It wouldn't be long, and I wouldn't be able to travel. The magic from Nuala was helpful, but not fool proof.
As I walked through the dimension, I noticed something odd. The animals that once ran were now slower. They seemed to be aging rapidly. I looked at a nearby newspaper, the dates matched, but it didn't feel right. I couldn't place my finger on a reason why.
"Please help an old lady out." A small child asked.
"Where is this lady, dear?"
"Its me, can't you see? I may look like a child, but my bones and body ache as that of a ninety year old. Time has been harsh to me."
"How can I help you?" I was more puzzled than a newborn fae trying to fly for the first time.
The child took my arm, "Just to the restaurant. I need food and a drink."
I assisted the child to a nearby restaurant. After she was seated I turned to leave.
"Thank you kind soul. I do wish there was an explanation for what is happening here. It seems that time has begun to play tricks on us."
As I left I considered the words. Time, kept crossing my mind. I would need to refresh my memory, but I don't believe there was a cure for time. Was this why the fae were crumbling? Time couldn't be to blame for that could it? It did make sense, in a way. The realm had sustained ages longer than most. But I had no more time to consider this. I was now in position to travel back to Finn's dimension.
I hugged the tree, now worn and aged. Drawing power for my travel. "Thank you, friend."
As I began to travel the dimension, I began to spin and twist. Never had a travel been this harsh. Once time to jump out, my wings shook nearly getting damaged. I missed my normal place, and landed in a pasture. Cows gazed curiously for a moment then returned to their grazing. I smoothed out my outfit. I chose a pain of jeans and a black shirt with a unicorn on the front.
I pulled Feathers mirror from my pocket. it was smaller than the palm of my hand, but at least I could see my reflection. I fixed my hair which looked as if I had been in the middle of a tornado, again. I calmly walked to the coffee shop and sat at a table outside.
Finn's car pulled in moments later. He walked my way, Feathers perched on his shoulder. I waved excitedly at them both.
"I didn't know if you would come today. I kinda feel like I rushed you into this." Finn ran his fingers through his hair.
"If I didn't want to come, I wouldn't be here." I smiled kicking myself mentally for that response.
