Chapter 5 I felt like a tortoise popping his head out of his shell. I must have looked a bit like one too. I’d never seen anything but fog before, but I popped my head through the last vestiges of fog and looked above me to see clear blue sky. It was beautiful. I almost forgot that we’d just climbed 2,000 metres and my legs were killing me. I was aching in places I didn’t know I had. I went to look at the suns but luckily Sestra stopped me. She promised me that I could look at the suns safely when we got to Sector A. A few more metres climb and we’d be on top of the wall. It was a little wider than I had expected, about two metres wide, but I still felt a little unsteady. There was no temptation whatsoever to look down on Sector D’s side – I knew it would just be a two-kilometre deep ban
