I was sitting at a table, waiting for my boss and his friend. According to what I heard earlier, they were going to build a building on a hacienda here in Cebu or Negros.
My boss and I arrived early at this cafe to meet his client, who is also his friend. They were talking at the other table, looking at a blueprint, and since there was food on the table where I was, they moved there. I felt embarrassed later because they probably moved there because I was eating so slowly, they got impatient.
But Ryker said they were going to eat again, so they stayed there and I stayed to watch their things on the table, like their laptop, and Ryker even left his wallet with me, so I had no choice but to wait for them while I sneaked in a text to check on mama and Caloy in Manila. I miss the kids. Plus, the area where they are is brighter because of the sunlight, while the area where I am is a bit dim, but it's okay because there aren't many people around.
"Good morning coffee girl, how are you? How was your child's party yesterday? Did you enjoy it?" I heard the staff say to the woman who just entered, I looked up at her.
I couldn't see her face very well because she was facing away from me towards the coffee area. She must be one of the staff here at Read and Cafe. What I like about this shop is that it feels bright when you're having coffee while sightseeing in the spacious garden area with lots of flowers.
If you don't want to look around, you can read a book, but there's a fee for charity, well, it's okay, at least the money goes to a good cause, that's why you pay first before you take or read a book.
"Are you okay, here?" I was suddenly startled by Ryker's appearance in front of me.
I panicked and gathered my things, the notebook that was just lying on the table. "Ah.. y-yes."
"Are you sure? If you want to eat more, Ms. Corpez, just order whatever you want here in the cafe, okay? My treat, so you don't have to worry." I suddenly sat up straight in my chair and looked up at him. I could smell his perfume and fresh mint breath.
"I'm still full, Mr. Sullivaño, thank you." We looked at each other and he was the first to look away because his friend called him, he took his laptop from the table.
"I'll be right back," I just nodded at what he said.
It was already afternoon when they finished their discussion, two more friends arrived, and to my surprise, I saw the owner of M.I mall in Cebu, none other than Ignacio Baltimoore.
But I was a little scared because of his aura, which was kind of snobby, it's like he's snobby to everyone he sees. He's like ice, he smiles sparingly, even to his friends. They went back to the table where I was now, probably to have lunch.
"Oh, your girlfriend?" I stumbled because of what sir Baltimoore said.
"No… just… she's my secretary, dude." I bit my lip because of what Ryker said. Well… it's true that I'm his secretary. That can't be changed. I'm just a secretary.
"I see… she's beautiful and I think-." We were both surprised at the table because Ryker pulled his chair back with a thud.
"Sorry… just order your f*****g food Baltimoore and f*****g go home." Ryker said to his friend in a cold voice. I just swallowed. What's wrong with this guy. But Baltimoore, who was told off, didn't even retort, he just laughed at what Ryker said to him while looking at the menu. Aww… he can laugh too. Sir Lance was laughing with them too.
Ryker pulled me closer to his chair, so I was really embarrassed by what he did, so I glared at him, he didn't know.
"I thought she was just a secretary! Why is she like that. More than, you know-" Ignacio said with a smirk, so the other guy got annoyed and Ryker threw the tissue near his table, so I couldn't help but hit his hand, he's like a child.
"Enough dude, look at Sullivaño's ears, they're red. Maybe his fist will hit your face later." Sir Lance Navarra said, the one who was talking to Ryker earlier. And their companion, Sir Douglas Martinez, went to the kitchen. I don't know, maybe he's one of the owners of this cafe.
I just smiled and didn't say anything about the arguments of the men with me. They're grown men, they can handle themselves. And me? This, I've been sitting here all day, just eating and eating.
It's just sad because my children can't taste the food served here. It's delicious though.
Hmm… I've only been away from them for a day and I already miss them. What more in the coming days. I'll endure it for my children's dreams. I'll endure all of this.
While they were eating, the four men were chatting, while I was just at their table, silent, except when they asked about the company, that's when they would hear my voice.
It was already evening before they finished, I didn't think these men were also marites. They were gossiping about some of their friends. Psssh.
"Tomorrow, what is my next schedule?" Ryker asked. We were in the car now, on our way back to the condo unit owned by the Montenegros.
I looked at his schedule in my memo. "Uhmm… you have a meeting with uhmm Shanna Cole, s-sir." I cleared my throat because I felt like something was stuck in my throat.
This is the woman who went to his office the night I worked overtime. Even in Cebu, they'll meet? Is it really a meeting? Maybe you're just going to meet.
No… no… who cares. Who cares if they're doing something bad.
It's his life, I don't care anymore if he has someone else or if it's just a fling. A playboy is always a playboy, he can do whatever he wants with his life.
"Thank you, Miss Corpez." I heard him say while whistling. I rolled my eyes at nothing.
When we arrived at the basement, I hurriedly took my bag and other things. And for sure he was surprised when I slammed his car door shut when I got out. He got out of the car and looked at me in surprise.
"Are you alright, Miss Corpez?" He asked me with concern. I smiled for a moment, facing him.
"Yes sir! I need to use the bathroom." I said, then turned around to get ahead of him to get into the elevator because I didn't want to see his face, it's annoying, I'm more excited to go up to my unit to think and later call Maynard and Freya, I think they're what I need now, I'll be okay too when I hear their sweet voices.
"Do you want to go to the beach? There's a beautiful beach here in Cebu. Maybe you want to go to the beach first before we leave for Manila." He said immediately when we got in the elevator.
I turned to him, "Is that related to my work, sir? Because if it is, then I'll go, but if it isn't... then no thanks, I have a lot of things to do too, or maybe… I prefer to go home early in Manila than staying here longer, then… yeah… if you let me. I can go home by myself." I said to him.
I suddenly gasped because he was staring deeply at me, so I stepped back, but he was walking slowly towards where I was standing, so I stepped back. Oh no, don't make a mistake and do something to me, I'll really bite you. I stepped back further, but I almost cursed because I had nowhere else to go, I could almost feel my back against the control panel.
And when I saw his black pair of shoes in front of me, I knew he was looking down at me because of his height, but I didn't lift my head, especially since I was really surprised by the scent of his perfume, and now I could almost feel our skin touching.
"Are you sure, Ms. Corpez?" He said in a deep voice.
I swallowed. "Yes, I said so…" after I said that, he immediately closed the elevator. s**t! You're so embarrassing, Aubree. I heard him chuckle softly and he stood in the middle, putting his hands in his pants pockets, looking up at the elevator numbers going up.
I moved to the area behind him, because of the embarrassing thing I did. It's really embarrassing, I didn't press the close button right away.
When we got out of the elevator, I could hardly lift my head because of what happened in the elevator earlier.
I just followed Ryker. I immediately entered the unit he opened, ready to scream because of what I did. It's really embarrassing… I thought he was going to kiss me.
"Really? Are you sure, Ms. Corpez?" He asked me with raised eyebrows while unbuttoning his polo.
"Yes, you're so annoying, I'm not going to that beach, you go alone with your girlfriend or wife or your fling, I don't care. Just let me go home first and hey, why are you taking off your clothes here! Go to your unit if you want to change!" I stopped talking when I felt myself panting while pointing at the door for him to get out.
His eyebrows rose even higher and the jerk was about to laugh.
"That's not what I mean, Ms. Corpez. What I mean is… Are you sure you're gonna stay here in my room?"
"What room? No… you have such a thick face! It's my… f**k! s**t! s**t! Sorry!" I said at the same time because I entered the wrong unit. What the heck, Aubree.
I immediately ran out of Ryker's unit, and when I entered my unit, which was next to his, I immediately closed the door and screamed.
"Ahhh… I don't want to be on earth anymore!"
