CHAPTER 30
"Oh, what's bothering you?" Donna asked me. She was at the house to visit the kids, but she'd be leaving soon. My children were getting ready for school later. I was going to take them before I went to work. I still had things to finish, but here I was, still not leaving because my plan to leave the house at six in the morning to go to the office didn't happen because of what happened last night, I got home late.
I was still sleepy.
I rubbed my temples. "It's because I still haven't found another job."
"Why are you even changing jobs? I thought you were okay with your current job? Is your boss not treating you well, or your colleagues? Just tell me, and we'll have a protest in front of that building." I laughed at my friend's words. I have another friend who I miss to this day, our paths haven't crossed yet.
Rowela.
"No, there's another reason."
"What reason is that? Aha! Don't say, you're in love with your boss, are you? Then it's not possible because you're ashamed that you have children? Or because your boss has a wife or fiance, so you don't want to entertain him?"
"Huh? What are you saying? No, and none of those things you're thinking about. It's just, I have another reason."
"You're always saying 'another reason', if you just told me right away, we could have come up with a good solution." She added.
My body slumped further onto the sofa. "Thanks, but—"
"Mama, hi Noona Ganda. We're done, me and my twin ," Donna and I turned our necks because of the small voice calling us. I smiled when I saw my children, all dressed in their uniforms. I let Mama and Papa handle the kids getting dressed now because they wanted to, and they know I have a friend visiting.
"My godchildren are so beautiful and handsome. Do well in school again because if you have five stars again later when you get home, Noona Ganda won't just bring you kwek-kwek when she comes here, but isaw."
"Yeheey!" I just shook my head at what Donna said to my kids. They think Freya eats isaw, even though she doesn't.
And when I saw that my kids were okay, we said goodbye to Mama and Papa. They'll pick up the kids later. Donna also went with us because we'll all use their tricycle to go to school, so we saved on fares again.
There are a lot of people who love my children, which is good because I don't want them to feel like they're lacking. I want them to know that I love them very much and that many people love them.
"Take care at work, Mama," Maynard said. He's sometimes quiet because his sister always butts in.
"You guys take care too, babies. Be good. Remember not to talk to strangers. And remember not to go outside the gate without Mama or Lola Mama, okay? Papa will come to see you later to watch over you, okay?"
"I'm a big boy already, Mama, no need to watch over me." Maynard.
"Me too, I'm a big girl already." My daughter stood on her tiptoes to say that they're big now.
"Yes… my babies are big now, but we still need Mama and Papa to watch over you, okay?"
"Okay, Mama, kiss please kiss," I smiled and went to Freya to kiss her on the cheek, and Maynard too.
Donna left first because it's not possible for her to take me to the building while traveling along Edsa on their tricycle, and they might get caught by traffic enforcers, it's dangerous, so I'll just take a jeep.
When I arrived at the office, Annaliza greeted me. "Why?" I looked at my watch, it was almost ten in the morning, so I slapped my forehead.
"I thought you weren't coming in, you were about to become a tiger from a kitten," I looked at her with a frown because of what she said while we were walking inside.
"Kitten? Do we have one here?" I asked.
"You're so slow, I didn't actually mean kitten. It's the boss!"
I grimaced when she mentioned him, even just by name.
"Oh, why?"
"Oh my god! You're so cool, girl. The other secretaries are trembling in fear that they might get scolded by their boss, especially if they're late and can't explain properly. But you? You're not afraid of our new boss?"
"No," I said.
"Wow. We were trembling when we were just asked where you were, but you? You're really cool." She said, and I just ignored her. You wouldn't want to be bullied if you've been bullied before.
When I got to my table, Annaliza immediately said goodbye to me to go gossip, I mean, give documents again to the boss.
I'll go to his office first because it's better if only we can hear when I get scolded than if he comes here to my table and humiliates me in front of other colleagues, and I might lose it and say the things I want to throw at him.
I took a deep breath before knocking on his door and turning the knob. I was still outside the door, but when our eyes met, I didn't know if I should be nervous because of his cold stare at me.
"Good morning, sir, do you want coffee?" s**t? Why did coffee come out of my mouth.
"You're late, give me a f*****g reason why you're late Ms. Corpez?" He looked at me with a smirk.
"Sir?"
"I know you're not blind not to see what time it is, and I know you're not deaf not to hear my first question Ms. Corpez!" He tightened his grip on the documents I was holding because of what the boss said in front of me. It's good that I went in here before he came out of the office, and he talks to me like that.
I don't know if I should apologize to him or him to me because if I think about what he did to me before, the word 'sorry' is not enough.
"It won't happen again, sir," I just said, looking at him bravely.
"Get the other documents that I gave you yesterday so that I can sign it before I leave."
"I'm not done filing the documents, sir!" I was surprised because he slammed the documents I gave him on his desk.
"Then finish it today, Ms Corpez. I f*****g need it right now to sign before I get busy with other things." He said, and I just nodded. I said goodbye to go back to my table, but he called me before I opened his office door. "Just get the documents and work here, inside my office."
"Huh?" My eyes widened because of what he said. The heck. "I can do it in the…"
"Are you complaining Miss Corpez?"
"No sir," I immediately answered. It's true, I only have a few files left to do on the computer, and I won't be in his office for long. I'll just think that I'm being paid by the company, so I can't complain.
He just stared at me sharply, and I immediately went out of his office. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "You're just my boss, but you don't own my personality, and you don't know why I'm late!" I muttered to myself.
I immediately went into his office and went straight to the sofa to do my work. There's a table and an extra computer, so I just used that.
I didn't look at him, and he didn't call me, so we didn't talk, even though he kept clearing his throat. If I only knew it would be like this, I should have taken my earphones and just played music so I wouldn't be annoyed by his throat-clearing. Why doesn't he just go out to the bathroom and release it in the toilet if there's something stuck in his throat.
Tsk
"Hey, you dude!" I was surprised again because someone suddenly entered. Three men, all wearing suits.
"What are you guys doing here?"
"Ohh, why? Are we not allowed to enter your office, you jerk? When you were still in the other company, you almost always wanted us to visit so that your women wouldn't go there to do miracles inside – fuck."
"You jerk, Edziel Montenegro. Your mouth, don't compare me to you." I heard the boss say gruffly.
"Oops, that's why he doesn't want to be disturbed, there's a beautiful lady in his office. Hello Miss, my name is Lance-" I was about to reach out to the hand that Lance, who was introducing himself, extended, when a small ball flew towards us and hit the man on the head.
"Hands off Navarra and get out! This person has work to do." He shouted at his friend.
"Whoaa, calm down dude, I was just shaking hands."
"You're another Sullivaño!"
"Enough of that, it's early in the morning, you're making the amnesia boy high-blood. Let's go, let's have coffee outside." Montenegro invited.
"Let's go… we're disturbing the lady, sorry."
They all went out, and before the door was closed, I heard one of them.
"Hey, jerk! You were so drunk last night, and dude Dark took a picture of you, here… clean and clear, how you fell in front of the woman." The other one said, and they laughed except for Ryker.
"Thank you, Lord, the bees are gone." I said before returning my attention to the computer.
