CHAPTER 17

Chapter 17 We had just returned from Cebu and finished the farewell party, but some people were already planning to visit other places as long as they were with the same batch. I welcomed the idea of others who weren't there last time wanted to join. But I refused. I needed to focus on my final thesis and other requirements for graduation, and I had to find a job right away. Besides, I was tired from the party. I wanted to avoid those gatherings, especially after what happened to me that very day. Something happened between Ryker and me. Ryker Matt Sullivaño, a man I never thought I would be with. The famous playboy of this school, and I fell for him. "You're spacing out again, thinking about something, you witch? Share if you can, otherwise, you'll end up talking to yourself." Rowela's voice brought me back to reality. I rolled my eyes at her last statement. We were at the soccer field, hanging out, sitting on a bench with a circular cement table. Our professor was late for the afternoon class, and we had to submit our final mission, which was paperwork. Then, one of these days, graduation practice would be happening. It felt like yesterday when my mom was dropping me off for kindergarten, and I would cry when I couldn't see her outside our classroom. But now, I could stand on my own two feet. But it still felt different having someone to lean on. I was thankful for my parents, who were always there for me. Even though I became independent as I grew up, the shy girl in school now had new friends and acquaintances. Who would have thought that I would become best friends with Rowela? Though things are different now because she has a boyfriend, so our time together has been divided. But it's okay, the important thing is that we're still there for each other. It's a bonus that aside from your parents, you get to meet other people. One of them, who would have thought that I would be with Ryker, the playboy of the campus, until college? We have been classmates since kindergarten because my parents worked for the Sullivaño's as farmers in their rice fields, and I was given a scholarship. So I only had to pay a small amount for school. Ryker used to be like a brother to me because he was always with me, and whenever I had things to carry, he would be the one sent, especially when his parents were around. Sometimes he would get upset because his parents were more concerned about me than him. But of course, I wouldn't replace my parents, so it was good that there was distance, and I only went to the Sullivaño's house occasionally because if I was there, the other one would be frowning. Ryker Matt Sullivaño. "Nothing serious, just thinking about things..." "Like what?" "What my future will be after college." "That's all you're worried about?" "Yeah, I guess so, no... I mean, there's still a lot!" "Well, my best advice to you is to stop thinking about it and just go with the flow of life." She said, and the corner of my lips went up. "Okay, noted." I replied, and she just gave me a thumbs-up. It's easy to talk to me. "Let's go, Jenisa texted that the teacher is coming. It would be a shame if we're late for this hard work. I don't want to be late anymore because my powers can't handle it, and we don't have time for baby time with my boyfriend." "You're lucky you have someone to have baby time with after everything, so don't be sarcastic, or I might slap you for being envious," I said as we walked down the hallway to our classroom. "You should find someone for yourself too, and choose between Ryker and Sebastian, because I think both of them are really into you." I stopped at her words. "Both of them? That's impossible, I don't think Sebastian likes me." "And the other one?" "Ha?" "Hey, don't deny it. I wasn't born blind, Inday. I saw with my own two eyes how Sullivaño stares at you." I pouted because until now, I haven't told her about what happened between Ryker and me. I don't think I'm ready yet. Does she need to know, or should I just keep quiet so she won't tease me? Yes, I think so... I'll just keep my mouth shut. Our professor had to go to another classroom, so when Rowela and I got inside, we sat down in our seats, as did the other students. I haven't seen him yet, where could that man be? Speaking of where he is, the person I was looking for just walked into the classroom. But my brow furrowed when I saw a band-aid on his nose. "What happened to you?" I asked when he got to his seat, pointing at it, but he immediately swatted my hand away, so I stopped. What's his problem? I was about to ask again, but our professor walked in, so I just ignored it. But I couldn't be calm, so I did what we usually do, passing messages, so I took a pen and sticky note to ask. I slipped it under his arm because he was leaning back in his chair with his fist on his jaw for support, but after our professor arrived, I didn't get a reply. I also stood up when the teacher called for the submission of our last assignment. I peeked at Ryker, but the lazy guy was asleep. Should I wake him up? The teacher didn't call him. I just ignored him and went back to my seat. It was already dismissal time, and our teacher and classmates were leaving the classroom. Rowela left first, and only Ryker and I were left. He was probably going to take me home, so I would just wait for him to wake up while there were still students in the school and it wasn't closed yet. I wasn't disappointed because he woke up a while later. "Hey!" I greeted him. He looked around the classroom while stretching his arms. "It's been dismissal for a while." He looked back at me, and I was smiling. "You should have woken me up!" he said. "But you were asleep, so I didn't wake you up, especially since our teacher didn't say anything important before leaving, he just submitted the last assignment he gave us." He nodded at what I said and stood up. "Let's go," I sighed before standing up and following him. Where's the talkative Ryker? He seems so serious today. "Are you okay?" "Aha!" "Okay," I could only say. He was carrying his motorcycle today, so that's what we were going to ride. But I don't think I'll be quiet if the real Ryker doesn't come back. I pointed a finger at him to teach him, "Bring back... bring back the real Ryker abracadabra bring back... bring back Ryker who's talkative and lively." I said, so he stopped getting on the motorcycle and stared at me, "He's going to smile, he's going to smile. Achu... achu," and because my dance step was effective, I succeeded, and he didn't just give me a smile but laughter. He was laughing so hard at what I did. This Sullivaño is so easy to make a laugh. "Are you okay now? You're back to your normal self?" I made sure, so before he put the helmet on my head, he messed up my hair, so I slapped his arm. "You know what, everything you do makes me go crazy. I'm falling for you, big time." He said, my face flushed, I ignored what he said and we both got on his motorcycle and he drove away. "What happened, why do you have a wound on your face?" I asked as we drove down the highway towards home. "Did you get into another brawl with your buddies again? Stop doing that, you might get hurt without knowing it, and it might be worse." I lectured him. "Yes, ma'am," "I'm serious Ryker." "I know, ma'am!" I pinched his side, so he groaned. He just laughed at what I said. Ryker vs. Ryker, really. "Thank you!" "Not welcome," I was about to slap him, but I stopped myself, or else he wouldn't pick me up tomorrow. "Go away and treat that wound when you get home, okay?" I said, and the guy was being dramatic before leaving in front of me. After Ryker left, I started walking towards home. But to my surprise, I heard my mom's voice again. She was angry, and I'm sure it was my dad she was mad at. There they go again, when I ask why they're fighting, I don't hear anything but, "We're not fighting, Aubree."
