CHAPTER 1

Lucas’s POV “Who is that student over there?” I asked, pointing directly at a slim senior student who was ridiculing another and teachers passed through the scene like they had seen nothing. “That’s Tiana, sir.” The student muttered like she was scared to utter her name. My face became cold immediately as I stared at the helpless girl who was being bullied while others watched and laughed. “So who is she? And why is no one doing anything about this?” I said with a strict look plastered on my face. “I'd advise you to watch the way you talk because Tiana is untouchable here and as long as her dad remains the biggest sponsor of the school she can’t be touched.” The student blurted out and walked away. It was obvious no one wanted to mess with her, not even the teachers. But I didn’t care about whoever her dad was. She was hurting the girl. “Stop this stupidity at once!” I yelled out, walking closer to the scene as most of the students started mumbling among themselves. It has been a regular occurrence whenever I pass through the midst of the schoolgirls. “Who is…” she trailed off her words the instant she saw me standing beside her. “What’s your name?” I said, looking over at the bullied girl who seemed like she was going to pass out any moment from now. “Je… Jessica.” She managed to utter. “And I am...” The girl named Tiana was about to tell me her name. “And I don’t need you to tell me who you are,” I said, cutting her off guard. You should get a life and stop bullying people. I snapped at her and the crowd suddenly went silent. “Go to the health center and get yourself treated, you’re badly injured. Jessica immediately picked up her belongings that were scattered on the floor of the school corridor and ran away. I looked over at Tiana and her eyes were pepper red as she folded her fists tightly, making veins pop through her hands. “What? No one has ever told you the truth before?” I pushed further. Left up to me, I wanted to ridicule her so much that she would never think of bullying anyone again, but I was hesitant. “You’re still new here. If not, you won’t be talking to me in such a way if you want to keep your job.” She said with a smile on her face as she threatened me. “Is that supposed to be a threat? Is that all you can do?” I retorted, pushing further to get on her nerves. “Remind me or your name again? Oh… Lucas.” “That’s Mr Lucas to you.” I shunned her immediately. “Why do you have to be so tough? I like you and I don’t want us to be on bad terms. Is it because of Jessica? She’s a stupid hag. You know I’ve had my eyes on you for quite some time now.” She said, gently rubbing her hands on my collar in such a seductive way. By now the whole crowd had dispersed, and only two girls were left standing beside her backline bouncers. “Get your hands off me, and I will never mingle with someone like you. You’re the type who craves attention so badly and it makes you do so many stupid things.” I declared with a cold look plastered on my face. “Oh, you don’t have to be this paranoid; sooner or later, the sooner you know how my influence can help you, you’ll come around. And next time don’t meddle in my business, I might not be in the mood.” She warned, taking a few steps backward. What the heck? Did she think she was in a movie or something? “Look around, do you think people love you? They are just afraid of you, and it’s only a fool that would be. Anyone who sees through you will know that you’re nothing but a scared teenager who hides under her father's influence. You’re nothing more.” I snapped at her and glared at her friends with a disgusted look before walking away. I wanted to head back to my office, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the girl who was bullied and what she might have done to get such treatment. I decided to stop by the health center to see if she was getting treatment. I stopped at the door as I already saw her through the glass being treated. I still wasn’t convinced, so I went in. “How are you feeling?” I inquired as she finally turned around, and it was obvious she was shocked to see me. “I’m fine, the nurse said I’ll be okay soon if I use the drugs daily.” She said plainly and her humbleness was evident in her tone. “That’s good. Why did you let yourself be ridiculed in such a manner anyway?” She sighed and kept quiet. “Do you like being ridiculed? You can also stand up for yourself. She’s not better than you.” I muttered and cleared my throat, so I wouldn’t sound so harsh. “No one stands up to Tiana here, she’s untouchable, her father is a sponsor of the school, so no matter how serious her offense is, she’ll always get pardoned. “So? Stay out of her way because you don’t need to go through that, no one has to go through that.” “She just finds it appealing to get on my nerves because she knows she won’t get punished, but I will. I’ve gotten used to it anyway, you don’t have to worry about me.” She said, forcing a smile on her pale face. “You’ll keep on getting injured if you brace up and let her know that she can’t walk on you whenever she wants, she will change her target,” I muttered gently, staring at the whole space. “Okay, now I have to go, take care of yourself,” I said calmly and turned to leave when I heard her call out. “Can I know your name!?” “Lucas,” I replied rather fondly. “Thank you, Mr Lucas.”
