Alex’s phone rang. His mother’s voice came first: “Alex, I need a grandson. We are getting old.” Then his father: “Alex, I need a granddaughter. Bring us a wife.” Alex looked at me. His eyes changed. He told his parents, “I will bring you your new wife.” They said, “It better you bring one, or else.” Then they hung up. Alex was depressed. He entered my ward. He was not happy. I thought he changed his mind. I stood up and went closer. “What happened, sir?” “It’s okay,” he said. “Share it with me,” I said. “Maybe I can help.” He looked at me. “If I tell you my problem, will you help me?” “Yes, if I can,” I said. Then he told me everything. A contract marriage. 2 years. He said, “I will offer you 10 billion naira after 2 years.” I was not listening. I was imagining the money. Biggest money I ever think of. He said, “If it’s not enough, I can add.” “No, sir, it’s okay,” I said fast. “Thank you so much.” “My name is Alexander I am 28 yrs old and You can call me Alex. What’s your name?” “I am Fiya I am a 19 yrs girl I said. “Okay. Let’s go register our marriage certificate. Without hesitation.” We got married suddenly. Alex stopped. Why did Alex stop? Was Fiya on the right side?
