Get in the car

333 Words
The car stopped. A tall man stepped out into the rain. Black suit. Black umbrella. Big like the car. Rain still hit his expensive shoes. Suddenly bodyguards surrounded me. Big men in black suits. They came from nowhere and formed a circle around me. My heart started beating so fast my chest hurt. I thought they wanted to kill me. My legs were shaking. Then he spoke. His voice was deep, calm, like thunder that didn’t want to hurt me. "What is your name?" I couldn’t answer. I was shivering too much in the heavy rain. My body felt so cold, like my heart was freezing too. Rain hit my head, my back, my bare feet. I had no shoes. No wrapper. Only hunger and shame. Then everything went black and I fell into his arms. When I opened my eyes, I was inside his car. Warm. It smelled like clean soap and money. He rushed me to the hospital. The nurse told him, "She’s just cold. She needs food and rest." I woke up and he helped me sit up. His hands were strong but gentle on my back. I was so shocked because no one had ever touched me like that before. Not since my parents... not since I became homeless. "Thank you, uncle," I whispered before I could stop myself. He looked at me. His eyes softened. "My name is Alexander," he said quietly. "I am 28 years old. And you are?" "Fiya," I replied. My voice was still shaking. "I am 19 years old." His jaw tightened a little. "I will take you home," he said softly. I was so surprised and happy tears filled my eyes. "Thank you so much, sir," I said. "It’s okay, Fiya," he said. He said my name like he was testing it. Then his phone rang loud in the quiet car. He brought it out and looked at the screen. His face became hard. His jaw locked. Who do you think called him?
