Scarlett pov   I woke up to the sun shining on my face, I looked around and saw I was in the play area of the park. I notice that I slept in the slide. I slid down and made my way to the bathrooms. I changed out of my comfy clothes and into pink tights, a sweater that said "Brunch so Hard", and white flats. I combed out my hair with my fingers and added a white bow. This was all I brought. Good thing it's early, no one is up yet. I rushed home and climbed the tree by my window, I got in and threw my stuff in the closet. I went into the bathroom and did my make-up. I added more than usual trying to cover the bruises on my face. I added eyeliner and some lipgloss, I tucked my locket in my shirt and added a smiley face necklace and hoop earrings. I looked at my reflection, you could hardly tell that there were bruises on my face. My eyes were still black and blue, so I added hot pink sunglasses to my attire. I can't do anything about my swollen nose. For once I’m happy that I fell, I could play it off saying I hit my face on the mat as well but I couldn't feel the pain due to the pain in my wrist and head.   I looked at the time and saw that I had to go to school. I left the house. I’m still not allowed to eat, I can eat when she deems fit. I walked to school in silence. I forgot my earbuds in my other bag. I make it to school in time, I walk over to the girls and smile, "hey, hey." I say   They turn and look at me, "what happened yesterday? You weren't at practice." Tina says   I look at her, I never did like her with her beach blonde hair and blue eyes. She'd be a knock out if she didn't wear all that make-up. The clothes she wears are just as bad, who wears a crop top that's more bikini top that a shirt with a short skirt that barely covers anything, she also has on heel too. Her cheerleading uniform is just as bad, except she has sneakers instead of heels, "We were practicing during gym. I fell and had to go to the hospital. The doctor said I have a sprained wrist, mild concussion, and a swollen nose. He said I was lucky cause I almost broke it." I explained    Tina didn't look all that happy, "you can cheer right?”   “Nope. He said since I got a concussion, I can't." I said, making my features look sad.   Kelly came over to give me a hug, “oh Scar, that's terrible. We all know how much you love to cheer.”  “It sucks." I looked at Tina, "what are we gonna do for the pep rally?”  “We'll figure something out, but you're excused from practice until your concussion is gone." She told me. I nodded and went to the bathroom. I walked down the hall trying not to get bumped into. I saw the bathroom in sight, but I heard a commotion coming from around the corner. Being curious, I walked over to the noise to see what it was. What I saw was heartbreaking. It was Brayden getting bullied by the football players, Jake and Max. Brayden was on the floor covering his face and Jake and Max were kicking him and yelling at him, "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING FAG!" Max yelled.     “YOU SHOULD FLY ON BACK TO FAIRYLAND, FREAK!" Jake yelled     Max said something that made me furious, "YOU SHOULD GO AND DIE YA EMO FAG!" you don't tell someone to die, it's only hurtful. I would know.   I couldn't take it anymore, "HEY!" I yelled going over to them and standing in front of Brayden, "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!!”   They stared down at me, "WHY YOU STICKING UP FOR THE FREAK SCAR!" Max yelled getting in my face.    I held in the flinch that wanted to come out, "YOU'RE BEING A f*****g ASSHOLE, DIPWAD!" I said. I got closer so they could hear me really good, "If this happens again, to him AND his friends, I'll be seeing Coach Walsh about having you guys sit out playoffs." I glared at them, "We all know how much those scouts and scholarships mean to you guys." I threatened.   They stared at me with wide eyes, "Fine." They reluctantly said. They soon started to walk away.   I yelled out to them one last time, "make sure to tell the whole team too!" Max gave me a thumbs up before they disappeared around the corner. I turned to Brayden, he was still on the ground shocked. His face was bruising around the eye, his lip was split and was bleeding. He probably had a couple of bruises on his torso too but I couldn't tell. I held my hand out to him, "what?”    “You just threatened them." He exclaimed   “Yea. I did. I shrugged, I smiled slightly, "you gonna take my hand or do you wanna lay there all day Bray?”   He took my hand and I pulled him up, "why'd you help me?”   I looked at him, "you're my friend. So are the others too." I shrugged, "I'm still a prep, Bray. I got so much dirt on the football team, well any sport really. I may be miserable but that shouldn't mean ya'll should be."I stated. I care for them. They treated me like one of them and not some outsider. Why should I suffer when I have the power to protect them.   He looked at me. He looked like he was gonna cry, then he pulled me into a hug, "Thank you Red. You really are wonderful." I hugged him back. I held him gently as he held me gently as well.    I pulled away and grabbed his hand, "come on." I walked, towing Bray behind me, to the girl's bathroom. I came to the door, "stay here." I went in and check to see if it was empty. It was. I turned back to the door and pulled Brayden in, I locked the door and turned to him, "sit." I point to the floor.   He sits on the floor looking up at me, "what are you doing Red?”   I sat down in front of him and went through my duffel bag. I pulled out the mini first aid kit that I keep in there. I keep one in my bag cause one day, after a major beating, I had some cuts and they kept bleeding, I had to wrap them in toilet paper. It was hard trying to cheer with it. So I kept a first aid kit in my duffel bag. No one questioned it because they thought it was for cheerleading. I went through it and pulled out some wipes. I turned his face so I was looking at the cut on his lip, I wiped away the blood. I turned him to look at the bruise that was starting to form. I got up and wet some paper towels with cold water. I sat back down and placed the napkins on his eye, "here hold this." he held it in place. "Anywhere else that hurts?”    “Yea." He pulled his shirt up. I saw bruises on his pale skin. I poked at his ribs. I wanted to make sure nothing was broken or fractured, "that hurts Red." He told me.   I nodded, "looks like you bruised your ribs. You're lucky they're not broken." I pulled out some blues wrap. The witch didn't know I have this in my bag if she did then it would've been pink. I wrapped up his torso a little bit. I went through the kit and pulled out some Advil. I grabbed my water bottle and handed them to him.   “Thanks." he took them and swallowed the pills, I took the bottle back, he looked at me weirdly, "why do you keep all that stuff in your bag? How do you know how to do any of this?”   “I have this stuff for just in case and you know why I can do this Bray," I said   “You had to do this in school before?!" he exclaimed, shocked.  I nodded, "It had gotten bad one time and I was in pain for the whole day. I had some cuts that were bleeding from the beating I was given and I didn't have anything to stop the bleeding so I improvised and used toilet paper. Try keeping my secret at practice when I have to wear a bra and shorts. I lied straight through my teeth.”   He was speechless. His phone started buzzing, he took it out and answered, "hello.”  “I'm okay.” “I'm in the girl's bathroom.”  “No, I'm with Red. Damien.” “Okay, see you when you get here.”   I looked at him weirdly, "what was that all about?”    He put his phone away, "that was Damien.”   “No s**t Sherlock.” He glared playfully, "he wanted to know where I was at. As you can see my dear Watson, I told I was in the girl's bathroom with you.”   I smiled but winced when my cut pulled. I sighed. I grabbed my make-up and stood up. I went over to the sink and applied more makeup to my eye and whatever bruise was visible. I dabbed lightly and winced every time. Soon my makeup was taken out of my hands, "Hey!" I looked up at Brayden, "Let me help." He started applying make-up. He was doing it as gentle as possible. Soon he was finished, "take a look." He smiled.     I turned and looked at the mirror, you could hardly tell that my face was bruised and that I had a black eye. I can now take off my sunglasses. I hugged his waist gently. I could feel the tears gather in my eyes but I blinked them away, "Thank Bray Bray.”  He hugged me back, "no problem, Little Red.”   We pulled away when there was a knock on the door.
