Chapter 11   Ash   “ASH, YOU”RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!”  I jumped out of bed, my heart pounding as I quickly got ready. Throwing on a white tank top, a pair of blue skinny jeans and white sneakers. Not even halfway through the school year and I would be tardy.  No way!  Mom drove me to school, and I rushed out of the car like the world was coming to an end and darted into the school. I rounded the corner to my locker and smacked into someone and hit the ground hard. My face taking the hit first.  “Watch where you’re going!” I heard someone shout.  Shaking off the dizziness, I looked to see who I collided with...Megan.   “Sorry about that. I wasn’t paying attention.” Standing back up and gathering my books from the ground.  “Cleary.” She mumbled. “Listen here Ashy. “ She said, taking a step towards me.  “ I just wanted to do you a favor and be honest here. Save you the hurt before you find out yourself. It’s clear that Brian can get any girl he wants, but he definitely won’t go for the weak ones. He is an alpha. They don't like their other half to have any weaknesses. I'm an alpha too. I see what I want, and I go for it. You, on the other hand, would rather sit on the sidelines and blend into a crowd. So, don't feel bad when he ignores you. I see what exactly is going on around here. Don’t get too confident. Know your place! If you choose not to and we cross paths again, there will be consequences and yes, this is a threat.” Her emphasis was on the word “threat” as it rolled off her tongue.  “I understand.” I said.  I was already late for class, I didn’t need any more problems.  “Good. Take this as your final warning.” leaning closer towards me.   “because if I catch you near him again, I will make you regret it.” she slammed her locker door and strutted off.  I hurriedly made my way to my homeroom. Taking my seat and scanning the room my eyes landed on Cali. She was staring down at her textbook ignoring her surroundings. I called her name and she didn’t respond.  “Good Morning, everyone.” Mr. Mountain said interrupting the conversations going on within the room. Everyone settled into their seats and focused their attention on the teacher. I glanced back and forth between the teacher and Cali to see if she changed at all. I watched her eyes occasionally look up at the teacher. She rested her chin in the palm of her hand. She acted like something was bothering her. On top of that she was completely ignoring me. I tried to recall if anything happened that would cause her to act that way towards me. The only thing that happened was the altercation with Brian yesterday. Speaking of Brian, I looked across the room to see Brian’s seat empty.  Something was seriously up and I needed to find out what. Finally it was time for class change. Cali was the first one up and out of the classroom before I could even get to her. I stood up and rushed out right behind her but as soon as I got into the hallway she was nowhere to be found. What the hell?  A familiar face appeared in the hallway...it was Brian. He was conversing with a group of guys. Angered boiled up inside me. He must have done something to Cali.  Ignoring the threat I received from Megan earlier, I approached the group of guys.  “What the hell?” I said interrupting his conversation.  “Can I help you?” he said turning around to face me and staring at me intently with annoyance.  All eyes were on me now but I didn’t care. Cali was not herself and he was the last person that she was around at school before she started acting weird.  “What did you do to her?”  “Who?”  “Cali.”  “Nothing.” he said. I could tell this conversation was getting to him. He turned his back to me and tried to continue the conversation he was having prior.  That wasn’t good enough for me. I needed more answers. Reaching out my hand I pulled his arm towards me and in that moment all I could feel was an electric shock shooting up my arm. What felt like minutes was only a few short seconds. Brian yanked his arm from my grip and we locked eyes. His gaze was so intense that I averted my eyes to the ground.  Brian     In that moment everything changed. An electric shock pulsed through my arm and into my entire body. I felt like I was losing control but too frozen in place to escape.  The words were overwhelming in my mind  HER  HER  HER My eyes were changing and I couldn’t calm down. Ash was looking down at the ground. A mix of emotions swarmed inside me. Finally I didn’t feel stuck in place and bolted out of the school.  When I got back to the house, I exploded into Able’s office. He was in the middle of a clan meeting but I didn’t care.  “We need to talk.”  From the look on Able’s face I could tell he knew something was up.  “Everyone is dismissed. We will continue this another time.” Everyone filed out of the office and I was left alone with Able.  “What happened, Brian?” The look on his face had answers and questions. Almost as if he was expecting something to happen but not for it to actually happen now.  “Every time I’m near this girl in school, I keep hearing “HER” in my mind. I bumped into her today and I felt an electric shock pulse through my entire body and I started to lose control.”  “Does this girl you are talking about go by the name Ash?”  “Yes.”  “Then you are ready to hear the story about what you truly are.”
