Missed Calls

These aren't my words Rather words of fate Announcing to destroy you Or what's left Acranius The next day I'm woken to Lucy banging on our door announcing that Mum wants us up, my eyes cracking open and surprising myself when the first thing that comes to mind is that guy Luke I saw last night, and how I couldn't keep my eyes off of him to save my life.  Jumping in the shower while Jake's still passed out, I slip on my clothes I had prepared yesterday before we left, then head out to see how Lucy's going while watching as she exits her room at the same time as me.  "Well I see that you're ready also." she greets with a grin, only to drop it when she doesn't see Jake with me.  "Don't worry, he won't be far behind." I state and go back into the room to wake him up.  "f**k, I'm up." he snaps, my mind automatically thinking that he was most likely up all night on his phone.  So while he's in the shower I get on my phone and see his posts on f*******:, the last one being at three sixteen this morning.  Not wanting to start an argument, I turn the TV on in the living room s***h dining room before Jake finally comes out twenty minutes later with dark rings under his eyes, damp hair and almost the same clothes only different in slightly different ways.  Locking the place up and meeting Mum and Cam outside their place, we knock on the door with Mum answering it five seconds later, Cam not far behind her.  "Alrighty then, let's get this party started." Cam announces then we're in the car suitable for the snowy terrain, and backing out of the car park and down the road to where this supposed theme park type place, is.  Once we get there Mum and Cam are already out and heading towards the small building situated near the front entrance. Turns out it's an information place as well as place to buy food and whatnot from.  Finding a cute souvenir of a native animal that's commonly seen around these parts of the snowy mountains, we finally head out to explore the place, the snowfall not as heavy today but enough to cake the roof of the place and some cars that have seem to be here only an hour or more.  "So Cam and I thought we would explore that spa thing they have going on here while you kids have some fun by yourselves. So make sure you keep your phones on you at all costs and ring us if you get yourself lost or in trouble." Mum instructs when we stand outside the building similar looking to the reception building at the cabin place they're staying at, before they're off.  "What did you guys have in mind?" I ask while Jake is on his phone, no surprise, and Lucy too busy casting her eyes around to even register what I have said.  "Hello, guys?" I try again when I get no reply. "Oh, I thought we could go on that hike through the inside of the mountain." Lucy suggests, Jake still not caring what I have to say as I sigh and nod my head.  "Wait, isn't that where your parents are going for that spa thingy?" Jake questions and just reaching halfway to the mountain's entrance and for some reason slowing our pace. "No, they went the opposite way. But if you got your eyes off of your phone screen for five minutes, then maybe you would have already known that." Lucy replies in a snarky tone, her clearly over his s**t just as much as I am and we haven't even spoken about it properly yet. "Whatever Lucy you fat cun-"  "JAKE!" I shout while giving his arm a slap and causing him to drop his phone in the snow, which I instantly regret now because I'm on my ass in the wet snow and a stinging cheek, wondering what the f**k has just happened. I look around me, embarrassed as well as a little dazed and find that no one apart from us three saw what went down, Jake not even helping me up as he snatches his phone and mumbles something along the lines of "it better work or you're f*****g dead" then he's stalking off to what I assume is the nearest park bench covered in the least snow. "I'm so sorry Lucy." I almost cry when I look up at my sister who seems unfazed considering it is nothing she hasn't heard before thanks to past bullies.  "It's not me you should be worried about, it's that cunt you should be worried about once Mum and Cam find out." she snarls, her anger emanating off of her that much I swear it's going to melt the snow around her.  "Please don't tell them, look let's just walk it off and calm down. Then we can figure out a plan of action." I breathe deeply as I try and stop the tears that continue to form in my eyes, only Lucy isn't too impressed considering if it was her way, she would already have told and enjoyed watching Jake have the s**t kicked out of him.  Walking the rest of the way to the mountain in silence, I go over all of the fun times and memories we had when Jake did love me and regret it because now I'm crying, causing Lucy to stop and give me an almost bone crushing hug.  "I don't know what you see in him, like I get you love him but look what he's doing to you. Every time he's over he's always on his phone and when you try and get a hold of him when he's at home, he will ignore your calls for days and leave you in a panic wondering where he is or if he's okay." she points out, the back of my hands wiping my moist cheeks before I spin to look at her with a look that states she's right, yet somewhere deep down inside something isn't letting my relationship with Jake, go. "I know what you're saying and what he said to you is not acceptable, like you are meant to be his family because he knows us all well enough. He shouldn't have said that to you and believe me it won't be left alone." I sniff as we make it to the entrance where a small line gathers to wait for their turn.  Dropping the conversation for now in favour of not broad casting it to those standing in line waiting for the supposed tour through the manmade caves and walkways through the mountain, a familiar voice sounds behind Lucy and I a few people behind.  Turning my head and spotting the guy Luke from the restaurant last night my heart flutters a little, only to beat quite faster as if it's the first time I've met him again, my eyes landing on the side of his frame clad in the same leather jacket, darker jeans than last time, the same Converse as well as a different shirt sporting the band name Aiden.  Spinning on my heels, I'm giving Lucy a wide eyed look who returns it with one of confusion, mentally face palming myself when I realise she doesn't know that I fancy the guy. So wiping it from my head altogether while we move up in the line, Lucy notices me turning back every now and then before clearing her throat to get my attention.  "I was going to let it go but I kind of find it hard to considering you keep looking at him. Is that the same guy we all saw at the restaurant last night?" she questions with a slight smile when she realises that her sister may have found someone better than that f**k that just hit me as well as called her a fat cunt. "Yeah, he's quite cute isn't he?" I grin and move once again up in the line. "Not really my cup of tea, but his friend though next to him is." she sighs with a matching grin, hers taking on more of a smugness to it, and before you know it we're at the entrance. Entering the stupidly cold mountain with the voices of those who entered prior to, echoing through the carved out tunnels, the dim lights just light up our path when we're told to go in and make sure we stay together to avoid getting lost.  With that Lucy and I are taking in the jagged parts of the mountain walls jutting out towards us, my hands lightly skimming the cold yet sharp walls then drop my hand in favour of turning around to someone bumping into me, accompanied by the unmistakable sounds of laughter and yahooing.  "Sorry, didn't see you there." the familiar voice apologises, though it isn't Luke but his tall lanky blonde friend.  "Nice one Rado, watch where you're going!" Luke shouts, only there's laughter in his voice as they pass us, a few mumbled apologies coming our way while disappearing further ahead.  Not even wondering nor caring where they're going, Lucy and I take a new path away from the others to have our own little adventure, my instincts telling me that it's a bad idea yet curiosity fuels this journey of mine.  "Okay I think it's time to go back. We are possibly lost haven't passed another door telling us it's for staff or the boss, only." Lucy points out when the voices of those we came in with, are no longer heard along with other voices that were in here before us.  "Alright, I just hope I haven't gotten us lost." I confess while we start backtracking, though my mind doesn't register where exactly we came from and which tunnels we took, concluding that we're officially lost.  Lucy is starting to freak out with me on the other hand keeping my cool, passing countless torches mounted to the walls every now and then before finally passing a door stating STAFF ONLY, my hand on the handle and wiggling it to no avail.  "f**k, it's locked." I hiss more to myself, now we're back to walking and hoping we find someone that will be able to help us return to our path again, my ears constantly strained to hear for something and in seconds later my heart melts with relief when a few male voices sounds from afar. "Help! We're lost!" Lucy calls, the voices halting instantly then continue again as they get closer to us.  For some reason I am starting to think that the universe is trying to tell me something when I'm met face to face with Luke and his friends, all of them smiling as Luke steps forward along with a few of them crowding around Lucy.  "So we meet again, didn't the tour guide Susan tell you to stick together?" Luke questions, his smile not faltering while I look back at Lucy who's too busy talking to the one named Rado, as well as a few others that tagged along with them.  "Yes, but I guess I got cocky and thought I would find my way back." I murmur, Luke grabbing my hand and leading me towards where we need to be.  "You might get lost." he points out when I jolt at the contact of his surprisingly warm skin, my cheeks heating to the same temperature of my now clamming up hand. Not once did we pull away, that is until we are reunited back with the other folks that came into the mountain with us. "Thank you, how did you manage to find us as well as get us back to safety?" I demand while Lucy's saying goodbye to the others, then telling me to hurry up otherwise Mum and Cam will get angry that we haven't replied back to their text messages, and four missed calls. "Let's just say my Dad has worked here for years and I am his apprentice in training, only I've got the week off considering my mates are on holidays and I'm technically their tour guide." he explains, his hand still in mine before I'm slowly pulling away from his grip, Lucy snagging my other hand and starting to drag me away.  "Okay, well thank you! And also, I did try and enter one of the staff rooms; you know to see if I was able to get back to the entrance of the mountain. But it was locked."  "That's because you need a key."  With his grin and fingers supporting the dangling keys by the key ring they live on, we finally make it out to see Mum and Cam marching towards us, Jake not far behind them and a look of boredom as well as supressed anger lingering in his crystal blue pools.  "Now they're pissed." Lucy mutters next to me when they look like they're about to explode, just as they set eyes on the both of us. "Why didn't you answer our f*****g calls, we've been trying to call you for the past forty minutes! We had to find Jake which you left all by himself, to find out where you were!" Cam rounds while not caring that everyone's looking at us before watching Lucy open her mouth to say something, only I give her a subtle nudge to let it go. "Sorry, we got carried away with the tour and didn't know you guys were finished in the spa." I apologise, my mind still on Luke and how he and his friends managed to find Lucy and I, as well as get us back to safety thanks to his Dad being one of the workers here. That and I assume his Dad has been here a while considering even Luke acts like he knows the mountain as if it's the back of his hand.  "Well next time bring Jake because I know he will at least answer his phone." Mum scolds while my eyes land on his piercing blue ones, anger building behind them and something else.  With the feeling of Luke's hand in mine still and committing it to memory, that touch is replaced with a cold and flinch worthy one when Jake slides his hand into mine. On instinct my hand rips away from his, causing him to frown in confusion as well as further angering him, yet I couldn't care less because he made that quite clear when he struck me in front of Lucy and insulted her.  "What, I said I was sorry! But then again you didn't bother checking your phone!" he sneers when Mum, Cam and Lucy are further up ahead, my heart catching a little as I try and force the urge to scream at him, down in favour of heading back to the car in peace.  Ignoring him, I stalk off to be with Mum and the others, not even caring what happens to Jake or if we leave him behind right now considering I'm starting to realise that there's at least someone out there better, than he will ever be and now I'm beginning to think he notices that.                                                                                                      * Arriving back at our cabin, Lucy is off in her room to check her phone as well as f*******:, the feeling of Jake watching me while I get changed into something comfier before he is in front of me just as I sit on the edge of the bed.  "Look, I'm really sorry how things happened today." he states in the calmest tone I have heard him use towards me since picking him up, my heart hurting considering he never used to be like this until about a few months ago when he started answering his phone less and talking about some girl named Kimmy.  "I don't know what's gotten into you Jake but you've changed and it's starting to worry me. If you want to leave me just say so, I can't deal with the fact that I'm only a distraction until you have the courage to ask out this Kimmy-" though the rest of my words die in my throat and my body stiffens when I feel the bed depress, and warm arms wrap around me.  "It's not like that at all, I've just been trying to deal with the fact that my junkie Mum is going to have another baby and she's trying everything in her power to get rid of Riley and me to my Nan's place." he explains, his tone sharp like he's talking to a child that has done something wrong. "What and taking it out on Lucy and I is okay? Because you know that I won't tell my Mum or Stepdad that not only did you hit me but called my sister a fat cunt? Because if this is the attitude I have to put up with until things on your end smooth out then I don't think I want to be with you!" I shout, watching him get into a defensive stance while my body trembles with the images of another blow coming my way, only it doesn't happen because now he's grabbing his jacket and phone and stalking towards the door.  "Oh that's great; just leave like every other time something gets too f*****g much for you!" I yell after him, not really caring at this point in time Mum, Cam and Lucy could be possibly listening in and are ready to jump to my defence if it calls for it.  "You know what Emily, f**k you and your hormonal bullshit!" he rounds on me, automatically silencing and stopping me in my tracks when I gawk at him in utter shock.  I can't believe he just said that! HE, of all people! That f*****g cunt, he can legit f**k himself as far as I'm concerned! Storming out of the cabin after him, not even the slightest bit concerned that Lucy's trying to calm me down and head to the nearest place I know I won't be disturbed. It also happens to be in the wooded parts of the place my family and I are staying. Ignoring the signs telling me that I'm not allowed over the wire fence and into the wooded areas considering it's dangerous, I begin stomping and crunching through the snow until I know I'm far enough away to let the tears fall.
