CHAPTER 16

*Gray* After I left the bedroom, I couldn't contain the smile that spread across my lips. There was something about Daisy that I adored, no matter how hard I tried not to, I just couldn't help it. I shook my head, walking down the hallway, toward the dining room. I saw Alistair and Fran, she was pouring him a cup of coffee. "Alistair, I have a couple of things for you to take care of today." I noted, sitting down beside him. "First, I'll need your help with handling the gentleman that I interviewed before you. I discovered he works for my family, and I need to settle with him." "What do I need to do, sir?" Alistair asked, nodding in agreement already. "Ask him what my parents are paying him, and tell him I'll double it, providing he leaves us alone and keeps his mouth shut." I responded, and heard Fran lightly gasp. "I won't open the door to anyone today, sir." Fran interjected, setting another cup of coffee down for me. "Thank you, Fran." I smiled, taking a sip. "I'll keep you posted, sir." Alistair said, looking me square in the eyes. "Thank you," I said, standing with my cup of coffee, "I'll be back soon." With that, I left the penthouse, to meet up with Rob. There were several houses he wanted to show me, and I didn't want to waste any time. The sooner we could move out, the better for Daisy. I had this weekend to set everything in motion. I pulled up to the first house, which was the farthest away from my parents, as well as my office. There was a large perimeter gate wrapping around the entire property, which was acres of land. The grass was bright green, decorated with red roses along the fence. I saw Rob's convertable red corvet parked off to the side, and soon the main gate started to open. Rob came walking out of the fence control room, with a bright smile on his face. I followed his car along the driveway, and slowly a beautiful mansion came into view. It was painted white, just like my parents house, with two large pillars that stood on either side of the doorway. I parked and got out of the car, walking up towards Rob. He let us in the house, and shut the door behind us. "Welcome to the Minclair's estate," Rob proudly announced, "It was built in the fourties, originally helping to store slaves that were seeking refuge. Plenty of space, plenty of bedrooms, like you requested, and of course the gated premisess." "It's nice," I said, glancing around the large layout. "Have a look around," Rob encouraged me, leading me towards the kitchen and dining room. It was a beautiful house, and had everything I was looking for, but it reminded me too much of my parents house. I couldn't wait to get back outside, and quickly scoured the large house in record time. I dragged Rob back outside, and insisted on the next house. With a heavy sigh, he agreed, and I was following him away from the mirrored murder home. The next house was about twenty minutes away, slightly closer to the office, but not as close as the penthouse. We pulled up to another gated property, and drove through. This time, the style of the house was different, and that already had me at ease. This house was a modern style, built with light gray bricks. The trim was painted black, giving it an edge, and immediately I was interested. There were large pine trees that scoured the front yard, giving the house more coverage from onlookers. When we stepped inside, I had already made my decision. I wanted this house. There were plenty of bedrooms, everything felt warm and inviting. There were multiple fireplaces, as well as a pool in the backyard. It had a state of the art alarm system, as well as a panic room. I was sold. It was one level, minus the basement, and all of the rooms were spacious. The modern layout appealed to me, maybe because it reminds me of the penthouse. The floors were a birch wood, and the walls were light gray. It was a relatively new house, judging by the condition of everything. "This house is brand spanken new! It was built just two years ago, never been lived in." Rob announced with a bright smile. "This is the one." I smiled, turning to Rob, who looked relieved. "Great, let's sign the papers!" He smiled, and we walked back out to the car. I signed the lease, and shook Rob's hand once again, as well as signing the penthouse back to him. It was a done deal, now I just had to move everyone out of the penthouse, and into the new house. I felt good about it, though. I left the house, with the new keys in hand, and drove back home. As I pulled into the garage of the penthouse, I noticed Alexa's car was gone. She never mentioned having to go somewhere, I wonder where she ran off to? I parked my car, entered the elevator, and walked out into the penthouse. As I entered, I heard someone in the kitchen, and assumed it was Fran. I walked upstairs towards my bedroom, and pushed open the bedroom door to find the bedroom empty. Though I was shocked, I figured Daisy wanted to stretch her legs. So started looking around the house for her. When I walked into the kitchen, I saw Fran cooking lunch, but she was alone. "Where is Daisy?" I asked, trying not to panic. "She isn't upstairs?" Fran asked, her eyes growing wide. "No." I growled, and sprinted out of the kitchen. I began frantically searching the house, to no avail, Daisy wasn't here... but neither was Alexa. I was hopeful that they were together, and Daisy didn't decide to try and run away. The thought of her wanting to run away, though, had me breathless. Just as I was about to leave, I heard Alexa talking, and Daisy laughing. The second I heard her little giggle, that little rumble from her belly, I smiled with relief. They entered the house, both of them carrying more shopping bags, and startled to see me. My elation quickly turned to concern, because I realized they were out in public together. "Where were you two?" I asked, trying to keep an even tone. "We were shopping," Alexa smiled at Daisy, "Apparently what I got wasn't good enough." "Stop it," Daisy playfully shoved Alexa's shoulder, "I didn't say that, I just wanted some comfortable clothes..." I stared at the two of them, feeling the anger build up inside, and watched as Daisy's happiness drained from her face. Alexa furrowed her eyebrows, and slowly stood directly in front of Daisy. Was she protecting her... from me? "Daisy," I spoke in a deep tone, "Bring your new things upstairs, please. I need a word with Alexa." At first, Daisy didn't budge, not until Alexa looked back at her and nodded. They had built a bond, something Daisy desperately needs, but why does it make me jealous? I watch as Daisy reluctantly drags herself up the stairs, away from Alexa. I waited until I heard the bedroom door shut. "What the f**k were you thinking?!" I growled, steering Alexa into the kitchen, where the bar was. I poured myself a bourbon, and offered one to Alexa, which she kindly accepted. I was pissed, livid, but I would never hurt a woman. I know Daisy doesn't know that about me yet, but she'll learn it over time. I just have to prove myself to her. Even though I get angry, that doesn't mean I'm going to use my hands to hurt her. "What?" Alexa reered her head back, "I thought she might enjoy getting out, going shopping for herself..." "What if someone saw you? Anyone in my family, anyone working for my family!" I shouted, losing my temper. "I--" Alexa stared at me with dismay, "I didn't think about that... I'm so sorry..." "I hate to say this, but Daisy can't leave the house- not right now, anyway." I stressed, rubbing my forehead. "I understand, it won't happen again." Alexa assured me, and I dismissed her. I retreated to my office, for a moment of solitude. How can I spin this to work for me? I have to be ready with an aliby, because chances are, someone saw them and I'll be hearing about it sooner rather than later.
