Seven - Big Day

764 Words
"Weather looks great in Chicago today," The weatherman spoke through a TV. Cara was walking around downtown, and she wasn't due to be at the Callaghan house for another two hours. The weatherman was right, weather in Chicago was beautiful at the moment and she thought it was the perfect day to go out and do a bit of shopping. She had always loved shopping in Chicago, there were many locally owned shops and the atmosphere was always so nice. Tourists were quite amusing, as well, with all of them being awe struck. This was day to day life for Cara. She let herself carry her until she was in a large boutique. It was quite a cute place, and in only a moment's time, she found herself in the baby section. Looking through the baby clothes, the actuality of her situation sunk in. She was to be a mother in only a few months time. A mother. She'd have a child of her own, a child that she would raise. With Nicolas. That was the oddest though of all. Looking, she found a small stuffed wolf. It looked a bit worn out and used, but aside from that it was just fine. Deciding the wolf was far too cute to ignore, she took it up to the counter to buy it. After purchasing it, she headed straight to Nicolas' house, knowing that she couldn't be late. After all, they did have something important to do today. When she arrived at the house, she was greeted by Elizabeth, who told her that the rest of the family would meet them there. Immediately, she knew that they had gotten into some type of business, but she rolled her eyes. This was something normal for them. The car ride was quick, considering their destination wasn't too far. Cara walked inside, and Elizabeth went up to the receptionist, letting her know that they had an appointment scheduled. Luckily they were right on time. Unfortunately, the rest of their troupe didn't seem to be here. Elizabeth obviously noted Cara's disappointment, but insured her that their company was on their way. After all this was a big step, and it was a family affair. Today was to be the date of her first ultrasound. The nurse was very kind, and she lead Elizabeth and Cara into a small pastel room, where she laid on the table and went through the precautions, the woman asking Cara if she had any symptoms, then smearing the lubrication on her stomach. Right as the nurse left and the doctor entered, she offering both a friendly smile as she checked over her charts, then turned on the ultrasound machine. She heard her heart beating in my chest, Cara's excitement getting the best of her. Granted, she wouldn't be able to tell much, but this was the first time she was able to see her baby. Just as the woman set the ultrasound machine on her stomach began to search for a better view, the door opened, to reveal two Callaghans. "You're just in time," the doctor laughed. Cara couldn't help but join her, her hand being used to cover her mouth so she could stifle her laugh. Both Nicolas and Alexander looked extremely bewildered. Either way, they came in and closed the door after them. "Which one is the father?" The doctor asked, to which Alexander walked over to Elizabeth, and Nicolas crossed over to Cara. "I am." "Good," the doctor spoke, continuing to move the foreign metal around her stomach, pausing as they looked at the screen behind her, seeing the ultrasound. Inside, was the faint outline of a baby. Cara turned to see Elizabeth looking at her soon to be niece/nephew on the verge of tears, and Alexander murmuring something in another language, a crooked grin on his face. Cara grabbed Nicolas' hand in hers as his knuckles graced her forehead, his mouth turned in a smile as he looked at the screen. Honestly, she probably could've cried, instead, she grinned, the familiar sting of happy tears were still there. "Come on, love, don't tell me you are going to cry on me." Cara laughed softly, ignoring Nicolas' tease. "You look like you're carrying a healthy baby, Cara." The nurse congratulated me. "You're carrying a healthy baby girl." This time she did cry. A girl. "Keline," She whispered softly. "Or Kennedy, or Adeline, or Eden." "Names already?" Nicolas asked with a raise of his eyebrows, before bending and placing a kiss on Cara's cheek. "Congratulations, little dove. On our healthy baby girl."
