Chapter 1: Rescued By The Alpha

1044 Words
"You can do it, Nessa. Run!" She urged herself as she increased her pace. Just when she thought that she was free from Jake's hold, he appeared again. She had been on the run for seven years since Jake had announced a huge sum of money to all the bounty hunters in New Orleans. That was a sign to her - No matter where you run to, I will find you and if I don't, they will bring your head to me! The bounty hunters in turn had employed all ways to get her. She had almost been caught in Gretna when she had fallen asleep from exhaustion. However, she was quick to escape again. Now, she was on the run again. Would her life ever be easy? The tears rolled down her face as she kept on running. She couldn't control her powers and on the full moon, she hid herself in caves to prevent other werewolves who saw her from jeering at her powerlessness. It was worse when the werewolf hunters almost took her into captivity. It had been a narrow escape for her again. "You can stop running, Vanessa. You won't make it past nightfall," Jake growled as they kept on pursuing her. Vanessa Adrian couldn't have it another way with him. It was either she became his or he killed her. Jake didn't believe in letting people off the hook. Someday, they would come back to bite. Just like she had said, he wanted to kill her before she fulfilled her last words. Velvet Moon Pack belonged to him and he would do anything to make it remain his. Including killing the legitimate Omega. Vanessa kept on running. "Mother, please help me, I'm lost," she paused for a while when she got to a bifurcated junction in the bush. She was confused as to whether to run left or right. "Stop already, you will make this easier for us both. I might even forgive you," Jake lied through his teeth as he increased his speed. "Just keep on going, Nessa," a voice advised her. After all, she had been running from him for two days without a direction. Her white gown had torn in different places, she looked so unkempt and blood dripped from an opening in her head. She wiped it away as she turned left. Her knees had gashes from stumbling, she was also hungry. All she had eaten for three days was an apple. Yet, Vanessa Adrian kept on running. "I can't die until I avenge my mother!" She muttered to herself. In those words she found strength and the will to keep on moving. It was almost dusk and soon it would be too dark for her to see anything. Vanessa wondered how she would make it out of the woods alive. She turned back to see Jake and the other werewolves running after her with so much speed. They were well equipped. She had nothing on her except the key to her mother's safe. She had taken it along with her. Only with that key could Jake access the power of Ikrion, the most powerful god of the werewolves. Her mother had passed it on to her on the night of her death. That must be another reason the bastard was running after her. She wouldn't give it to him. He would do the unimaginable if it ever fell into his hands. Vanessa stumbled on a stump. They were almost closing it on her. "Fire the arrow!" Jake commanded one of his men. Vanessa stood up immediately and continued running as the arrow flew past her ear. She gasped in shock. That was a close shot which meant that Jake was at her heel already. Vanessa continued running but her legs were caving under her already. She needed to rest but she couldn't. After Five Hours... Suddenly she saw a tree. Vanessa looked back at them. "Is this what you want? Over my dead body!" She showed him the key as she climbed the tall tree. "You should keep on running because now, I just reconsidered my proposition. Vanessa Adrian should be shot at sight!" Jake roared. He had wanted her alive before. Maybe she would reconsider and serve him but now he had just discovered that the key he had turned down the castle for was with her. He had spent sleepless days and nights trying to unlock the valve but no key had fit in. Jake had even thought that Patricia had hidden it from him when she discovered that he was the one who sold them out. He had vented his spleen on the chiefs. No one knew where it was. However, it was within his reach now. He galloped faster. Just a few meters away, lay the key to Ikrion. He would die a thousand deaths if he didn't get his hands on the key before nightfall. They were almost getting to her. Vanessa looked down at the tree's root. She gasped. If she fell, she would break her neck. What would she do? Her heartbeats raced in her chest. One of the men caught a hold of her gown. Vanessa struggled to push him away. If they captured her, she would be a slave to him forever. She would rather die than be his. She closed her eyes and by luck slipped into the hands of Alpha Ryan. It was past midnight. Then the velvet moon pack arrived. They had climbed the tree successfully. They saw the headless alpha holding their prey. They looked to their leader, Jake. Jake froze at the sight before him. This was the reputable, ruthless, and most powerful Alpha. He could kill thousands in one night. How come he was in the woods? This wasn't what he had expected at all. Jake was there at once. The minute he saw Ryan, they saw it was the headless Alpha spoken of in myths. The most powerful werewolf to exist and the most ruthless human. People feared him. He didn't have a Luna for his pack yet because he was a monster. Jake and his wolves trembled. They ran off at the sight of him. "Please save me, they will kill me," Vanessa fainted in his arms.
