The first thing I did after the gala was fire my PR team.
Not because they were incompetent—they were the best money could buy. But because they wanted me to spin the story. To control the narrative. To issue carefully crafted statements and schedule strategic interviews and manage the public's perception of the Blackwood family drama.
I was done managing perceptions.
"Sir, with respect," my head of communications said, staring at me like I'd grown a second head, "you've just announced to three hundred people that your ex-wife has been hiding your secret child for four years under a false identity. The press is going to have questions."
"Then I'll answer them."
