Chapter 1 – Her Death

1278 Words
It has been seven years since she started this work. She’s still young and she never expected to face death this early in life. Sometimes, she would think it’s dangerous. Most times, it seems fairly safe compared to any other options she has. She always doubted people saying they see their lives flash before their eyes when they thought they’re gonna die, but now she’s experiencing it herself. She saw her family. Back when she’s still a kid, they were happy with their lives. Then, her father had an accident and was hospitalized for some time before eventually dying. Their mother had a hard time finding work and earning enough to support her and her two younger siblings. Nia is the oldest. Mark is the second and their youngest is named Lara. Nia and Mark were more understanding of their situation than Lara. That kid acts like a brat. After working so hard for over a decade, their mother got sick and had to be confined. They were left with the responsibility. They have no savings. No relatives. No rich friends. Their neighbors can only provide little support by giving them food to eat. As soon as she turned eighteen, she found work. One that made her feel lowly, but she decided it was necessary. Someone connected her to a man wanting a virgin. The price is high. She may be inexperienced but she’s aware of relations between men and women. She used to read romance novels in high school. Her first time was with an older man. He’s not that too old, though. He retained his attractiveness so she was able to pretend that she wanted it. He was a little rough, making her cry out as he penetrated her the first time. She did bleed a little. Since she knows nothing and she didn’t want to embarrass herself, the man did everything from beginning to end. Pleasuring himself with her young body as he wanted. She only needed to do as he asked. Where to put her hands, when to turn around, when to cry out… she’d heard so many words she wouldn’t hear in public. She was a little grateful for the man, not calling her any degrading terms. Maybe because it was her first time and she’s technically clean? Back then, she didn’t know anything. She hasn’t finished school. She didn’t know the greed of people. She didn’t know how much people can manipulate others for their own benefits. She’d sold her body to anyone who wants it so she can earn the much-needed money. The payment she gets has normalized at a certain range, but not enough to cover the hospital bills. There were many times she cried at night. She kept going for her family. When their mother died, she needed to support her siblings. She wanted to send both of them to college. Mark will have to go first as she can’t support two of them at the same time. She would quarrel with Lara every day and she’s sick of it. It’s been two years. And now she’s gonna be dead in the morning. By sheer desperation, she’d accept any client as long as they’re paying. Never mind if they’re married or not. Never mind if they have children or not. In recent years, she’d learned to protect herself from sexually-transmitted diseases. Aside from money, that’s her only requirement. You have to be free of such diseases. She’d heard of an exclusive club which caters to the rich and wealthy. When she went to get a job there, she was refused. She didn’t meet the requirements. She’d worked for so long outside that her reputation is practically ruined. That could ruin the club itself, if their clients realized they have employees who used to work for ordinary people. It’s a show of prestige and privilege. Their clients don’t want people who worked below their status. She sighed then. If she only found out about them earlier. It’s a pity so she could only continue with her current way of doing things. It’s truly pitiful. And now, she messed up. Or she has reached the end. The man she’s servicing is married and his wife caught them. Red-handed. Right there on the bed. While they’re both naked. The woman brought men with her. Looks like body guards or something. She started by pulling Nia’s hair and dragging her out of the bed. She cried out from the pain but she didn’t say anything else. She has no right. She knew she was wrong. She can only accept whatever punishment the woman wants to give her. The woman cursed her out, as well as her own husband. She’d been slapped left and right. Her head is full of pain. She couldn’t even cry. So many men present who witnessed her humiliation. What could she do after this? No doubt her bruises would take a week to heal. A little longer for her to psyche herself up again, to go out and face people with her head up. But she never would have expected her to pull out a gun. Her eyes widened as she stared at it. The man was obviously not expecting it as well. He tried to reason out with his wife but it only served to infuriate her more. When she turned back to face Nia, she pulled the trigger as she pointed it at her forehead. She heard the moment she fired. It was deafening and she closed her eyes tightly, feeling sorry for her siblings and for herself. If only there was a way she could’ve lived better… She expected pain but there was nothing. Shouldn’t death come quickly if she was shot in the head? She’d read that the brain lives a few moments longer when a person dies. Is it the same when you get shot on the head, though? She felt as if her world turned upside down and she got disoriented. Dizzy. For a while, there’s only darkness around her. And then, there’s the feeling of falling. Seemingly endless. She screamed but she heard nothing, not even her own voice. Is this how it is after death? She started to feel afraid. Then, the pain came. It seemed to bring her back and she felt her back touching something soft beneath. She seems to be lying down. The pain she felt… No, the pain she’s feeling… it was on a different part of her body. She seems to hear someone grunting. Then came the feeling of being pressed down. Slowly, she opened her eyes and saw a man above her. She looked utterly confused and dazed. She almost shoved him away, if weren’t for the pain in her center. And yes, her body seemed weak. She cried out as the man started pounding into her. She clutched his arm and tried staring at his face. She was surprised as she vaguely recognized him. This… wasn’t he Jeremy? The man who bought her virginity? The first man who had her? Her first client? What is going on?
