Twenty-Eight “LOOK, HELEN, I DON’T believe Gladys will do anything wrong.” We just crossed the Maryland-West Virginia border on our way to a small town outside of Charlestown to visit Mark Dupree. When we called the previous evening and told him about his sister, he expressed a mixture of shock, surprise, and sadness. According to him, they hadn’t spoken in fifteen years.
