After Graduation

405 Words
After graduation, Amelia and John's paths diverged as they pursued different dreams and ambitions. John decided to attend a prestigious university in another state, majoring in business, while Amelia chose to study photography at a local art institute, determined to turn her passion into a career. Despite the physical distance between them, Amelia couldn't shake off her lingering feelings for John. She found herself scrolling through his social media profiles, checking his updates, and occasionally driving by his family home just to catch a glimpse of him when he visited during holidays. At first, Amelia justified her actions as harmless curiosity, convincing herself that staying updated on John's life was a way to maintain their friendship from afar. But deep down, she knew that her feelings for him had never truly faded. Meanwhile, John was aware of Amelia's continued interest in his life, thanks to mutual friends and occasional interactions online. He appreciated her support and friendship but couldn't help but feel uneasy about her persistent attention. During breaks from university, John would occasionally visit his hometown and run into Amelia at local events or gatherings. Each encounter brought a mix of nostalgia and discomfort for both of them. While they enjoyed catching up and reminiscing about old times, there was an underlying tension caused by Amelia's ongoing fascination with John. One evening, during a chance encounter at a community art exhibition, John and Amelia found themselves alone for a moment. The air was charged with unspoken emotions as they stood face to face, the weight of their complicated history hanging between them. "Amelia, I appreciate your friendship and your support over the years," John began, choosing his words carefully. "But I've noticed that you still keep tabs on me, and it makes me a bit uncomfortable. I think it's important for both of us to move forward and focus on our own paths." Amelia's heart sank at John's words, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. She had hoped that her subtle attempts to stay connected with him would go unnoticed, but she realized that John had always been perceptive about her feelings. "I'm sorry, John. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," Amelia replied, her voice tinged with regret. "I guess I haven't fully moved on from our past." John nodded understandingly, his expression softening. "It's okay, Amelia. I know it's not easy. But we both need to prioritize our own growth and happiness." .
