Confused, Kendall rubbed her eyes as she came awake. Light was coming through her living room’s sheer curtains, and she was on the couch. It took her a moment, but when she remembered why she was on the couch, she jumped up only to step on Chad, making her fall.
“Oof,” he said as she collapsed on top of him.
“I’m sorry.” She scrambled away. “I didn’t know you were there.”
“You fell asleep, and I didn’t get in touch with anyone, so I crashed for a little bit.”
