Clare had been going to the gym with Hunter for the past two months for her training. At this point, she was already not only great at defensive tactics but also at fighting back.
All the hours attempting to hit and getting hit and those spent almost wearing out her arms and legs muscles finally paid off yesterday when she pinned Hunter down.
And she was not about to let him forget it anytime soon.
She walked backwards in front of him making funny faces at him while he constantly rolled his eyes at her childish behavior. But she could tell he was impressed.
The slight tip of his lips upwards told her, along with the beginning of a dimple forming on his cheek. The universe was so unfair, why did some people have to have it all?
"Clare...! " Clare heard him call out just as she felt someone jostled her from behind. She turned to see Kat, Beta Harry's first daughter. She had a younger sister that was a fresher and followed her popular sister like a shadow.
Clare quickly apologized for walking with her back and corrected her posture. Kat glared at her along with her posse, her sister and two other friends of hers.
They turned and left with hair flips but she could hear them whisper amongst themselves with her Alpha hearing
"f*****g Slut." It sounded like Kat
"Yeah, she is such an hypocrite." kid sister Chloe replied. Clare really doubted how many brain cells the girl had left or if any of them realized the meaning of the words they just used to compare her.
Because she was nothing like that. It was more up their alley. She rolled her eyes and decided to let those words roll off her like water on a duck's back.
The fact that she could fight for herself now doesn't mean she is going to start doling out punishments for every bad word someone said against her no matter how inconsiderate.
She made her way to class without any further drama and she wasn't sure but she thought she heard Hunter whisper to her
"You did good!"
Usually, people debut things they get paid for, but Clare's debut today was a little different. It was a cafeteria debut.! Yay!!
Since she always hid out in the library from fear of physical assaults, today was the day she was taking back one of her most important privileges as a student
The right to eat in the school cafeteria.
Clare was not sure why she was as nervous as she felt. Jeff and his gang had not been disturbing her for months moving on to other unprotected victims.
But she had a feeling that going into the cafeteria was going to change the way people saw her, they would definitely notice that she was crawling out of her safe zone which would make them suspect that something was different. She wondered how they would react to it.
Would she make friends? Or would she be challenged? Would she get scared and run back?
She felt the big hands of Hunter envelope her one making her glance up with wonder at how warm it felt against her skin. How could his presence feel cold to her and his hands feel this warm?
He gave her a smile and squeezed her hand a bit. Once again, Clare wondered what awesome things she had done in her past life to deserve such a wonderful friend.
Hoping she was not overstepping any boundaries, she stretched her arms around him and gave him a hug.
God, he really was warm and comfy and the hug was not awkward at all, in fact it felt familiar like they had done this several times before. She felt a sense of Deja Vu from how familiar his warmth felt.
He sighed and put his arms around the small of her back and pulling her closer to his body, Clare rested her head on his chest and they enjoyed that moment together.
A minute later, they pulled away and Clare felt as ready as she was going to be about it. "I'm ready." Clare declared.
"Text me when you are all settled in."
She nodded at Hunter and walked into the cafeteria.
Noonenoticednoonenoticednoonenotice....
"Wait, isn't that the half omega?"
"Ugh, what is she doing here?"
"Oh no, why would she walk straight into the lion's den."
Heads began to turn her way making her nervous, with slightly shaky legs, Clare walked to the counter to order a plate of pasta and sauce along with a bottle of water since she didn't like Carbonated drinks with her meal.
She then turned and searched for a table occupied only by humans. She saw one at the extreme end with human geeks on it, the very bottom of the school hierarchy. It was more than enough for her if they accepted her like they offered.
Clare made her way to the table keeping her head high and ignoring all the eyes on her. It was more likely a minute but it felt like two hours before she made it there.
"Hi, is this chair occupied?" She asked directly to the ebony skinned girl Makayla whose friendship she had politely turned down so as not to put Jeff's attention on her.
Makayla studied her with her from above her dainty glasses for a second, two, three before she flashed Clare her pearly whites.
"It's been collecting dust for a certain Clare Adam-Baros for about three years. What took you so long?"
Clare felt relief wash through her. The people on the table : Sam, a tiny gay guy, May, an Asian immigrant and of course Makayla all introduced themselves and made her feel welcome straight away.
"You can come now." Clare texted Hunter.
She had all she had ever wished for and more, she was an Alpha that could now protect herself and her friends from bullies, which meant she could now make said friends, her parents were proud of her and She had found her place.
Now she was ready to present herself to the pack as an Alpha. It was happening so quickly, it was like a dream. A beautiful, beautiful dream.
Everything just seemed to be getting better and better.
