Chapter Seven

1065 Words
Ronan POV I stormed through the glass doors of the Larkin industries building like a thundercloud in a fine tailored suit. My eyes swept over every inch of the lobby in seconds. “You,” I pointed to the janitor who was mopping by the receptionist area. “Make sure this floor is spotless. I want to see my reflection in them.” He jumped slightly and started mopping vigorously. “Tracy, cancel my noon meeting with Marcus. Shift it to Friday.” I said to the receptionist.” “But sir, you have a quarterly-” “Friday, Tracy.” I interjected. She nodded her head in silence. “And you,” I turned to one of the interns lingering near the elevator. “If I see you scrolling your phone one more time, I’ll send you to the archives.” the young man paled before tucking his phone away and scurrying off. I glanced around one more time and everyone else hurried and went back to doing their respective jobs. I headed for the elevator, Philip managed to catch up with me before the lift doors closed. “Sir? What’s the rush? Did I miss something in the schedule today? Is someone important coming today?” I didn’t answer him immediately and waited until we were secluded within the four walls of my office. “I found her.” I breathed out finally. “Her? You mean your mate?” My beta asked for clarity. The memory flashed through my mind. Earlier this morning… I had an unknown number call my private line. I didn’t think it would be her because it felt too soon, but when her soft voice came through the phone’s speakers, I nearly dropped my cup of coffee. “Ilana, is that you?” I asked, just to be completely sure. “Are you alright?” “I want to talk.” Never has my heart thrummed against my ribcage, the way it did at the thought of seeing her. “I’ll send a driver, or I can come to you myself-” “No. I’ll come to you. Just text me the address.” Now… “You’ve known who she is for a week? Why didn’t you tell me you’ve found her? Why isn’t she already part of our pack?” I took out a bottle of scotch and poured myself a glass to calm my nerves. “It’s a bit complicated. It seems she is a rogue, and she has a daughter.” I swallowed the liquid in one go. “A daughter!? That means she-” “She isn’t marked.” Of that, I am sure. She doesn’t carry the scent of someone who is marked. It makes me wonder what in the world happen to her in the past and who is the father of her daughter because I need to kill him. “Make sure the conference room is cleared for the rest of the day, and place an order from the restaurant. Get everything on the menu, I want her to have options.” Philip nodded his head and then left me to my thoughts. This is my chance to sweeten my offer, to show her that not only will I provide for her and her daughter, but I will protect them, and love them. It’s been 14 years since I got my wolf, I thought maybe I wasn’t destined to have a mate, or worse, she was already gone. That’s not true, she’s here, in the same city with me. And I’ll be damned if I don’t make her mine. Ilana POV I held Adriana’s hand tight. She was excited, smiling the entire time since we left the cafe. I wasn’t going to bring her at first but changed my mind when she threatened to cry. She gaped at the tall building looming in front of us, and I nearly hesitated and turned away but I want a better life for Adriana. If he can provide that, and is willing to because of our mate bond? Why shouldn’t I take advantage of that. “Ilana Hale?” a voice spoke to me the second I step through the doors. He wasn’t much older than me, but the scent he was giving off, and they way he held his head high, he was a wolf and a strong one at that. A beta maybe. “Ronan has been expecting you, please come this way.” he escorted us to the elevator. Adriana squealed because it was her first time in one. “Would you like to do the honors?” he pointed to the floor button that was waiting to be selected. She squealed and smashed the button, earning a giggle and a chuckle from both of us. The door closed and took us to one of the top floors. He opened the grand doors before us and we were hit with different aromas of dishes. On the huge table was an elaborate feast, covering almost the entire table. “Give him a minute and he will be right with you.” I walked in with complete shock. Two waiters stood on standby and nodded their heads in acknowledgement. “Mom! Look at that chocolate cake!” Adriana’s eyes sparkled at the sight of all the food. I didn’t know he was so well off. “Remind me again why you don’t like him?” I glared at her for a moment before the doors opened again and my heart stopped. He stopped as well once our eyes made contact. When will I get used to this? “Ronan!” I couldn’t stop Adri from running into the arms of my mate. He too was a bit surprised too but embraced her nonetheless. “Can I have some cake?” she batted her eyes at him. He looked back to me first before responding. “Of course, but dessert comes only after you’ve had your meal.” Looking at their interaction now, only one thought ran amok in my mind. They look so perfect together, like a father and daughter. “Shall we eat?” he broke my train of thoughts and gestured to the table. Adriana ran back to my side and held my hand nodding her head continuously. I smiled softly then turned my attention back to Ronan. “Yes.”
