Chapter 10

"Thank goodness you are awake." Evelyn said with a bright smile on her face. They waited throughout the night for her to wake up, all the family members had gone back to home but not after insulting Liam. Marcus stepped forward. "You need to thank this young man for saving you. He told me last night that one of Liam's friends dropped something in your drink, before he could react, the drug's effect kicked in. The same guy he sent tried to fight him when he tried to bring you home, which he succeeded. On his way home, he attacked him on the road and brought you to the hospital to cover up his misdeeds, thank you." She explained, glaring at Liam. "Another drama begins, she can never remember all that happened outside the hall," "I never did any of that, he..." "After everything I did for you, is this how you want to repay me? I gave you everything, yet you want me dead." Riley recounted as tears rolled down her cheek. Liam was even more disappointed at her. "You believed that lie? Even after living under the same roof for three years, you couldn't trust me for once." He spoke out of pain. "No, I don't know what you can do Liam. I need you to leave here now before I call the cops on you and sue you for your foolishness." She yelled at him, her eyes reddened out of anger. "I have more reasons to make you regret, don't blame me later, including you Evelyn, and Marcus" he gave his last words and headed out. He could hear Riley thanking Marcus which angered him more. "I blame myself for helping, I should have predicted this earlier." "Sir, Nick sent them." George reported. "Fire those security guards, release that guy and give me information about the two guys, I need to know who they are." He stated and ended the call. A week later Liam had resumed work at the main company after sorting out the necessary things. "Good morning sir, a representative from the Williams company is here to present their proposal." Lisa informed, dropping a mug of coffee on the table. He smiled. "I don't want a collaboration with them" "But, we gave them our word two days ago, moreover, they have the ability to get it done," she tried to explain to him. Silence erupted in the room as none of them spoke a word again, he only glared at her. "Maybe you should allow them present, then you send a memo to the human resources department that I need a new personal assistant." He gave out a smile while saying that. "I am sorry sir, I understand now." Lisa bowed and left the room. A message popped up on his phone. "The imposter is out on the street again, lurking around Riley's mansion." He read out and placed a call through to George immediately. "Good, he would try to get close to her again. Report to me whenever you see them together." He spoke and ended the call. "You will regret impersonating someone throughout your lifespan." Riley resumed to the company after resting and working from home. Her heels made the sound clip and clop as she worked, she noticed the workers were in groups gisting, they didn't stop even though they noticed her presence. "Go back to your position everybody." She instructed in a grumpy voice, they bursted into laughter and continued. She wore a confused look, "what's going on here?." She questioned herself. "Nothing, just that the board approved me as the new CEO of this company, so you are just my assistant and you are still part of the board members." Nick announced to her from behind, she turned to see him and grandmother standing. "That can't happen, I partnered with 60% so I should be the CEO not you" she tried to defend herself. "We know that's how it should be but you are a girl who should concentrate more on herself after a divorce and attack. He is the perfect person for this position, don't worry he will do more than you have done." Grandmother explained in a soothing tone. "No grandmother, I worked my a*s off every now and then just to make things run the way it is now. I can't just leave it to someone else." She protested loudly. "You need to understand that no matter how hard you try, you can't run this company alone because you are a girl. Both the board and the family members want me to rule. We were only kind enough to make you the CEO because it wasn't stated in the contract that you would be the CEO and you don't have the right to be in a position here." Nick explained and handed the documents over to her. She read through it. "They knew I trusted them so much that I would not read the contract, Liam warned me about them but I didn't listen. What should I do now?." "Fortunately, you can get 30% of your shares if you want to but you wouldn't want to betray your family. We are giving you the option of working in the company as my assistant or you leave" he stated and folded his hands glaring at her. "I am not partnering with the family company again, you will hear from my lawyers and I will turn the back of people against you all." She threatened, pointing fingers at Nick. "You won't dare do this to your family, where you were brought up, we accepted you when your father left without turning back. Riley, you owe this family your life and you will do everything to make sure things are in place. We own you." Grandmother shouted, narrowing her eyes at her. She looked at them with teary eyes and walked away heartbroken. Words alone could not express how she felt within her. From sacrificing everything, to being deceived and being threatened for her good deeds. Her heart was heavy with thoughts of different kinds. She parked by the road side and placed her head on the steering wheel.
