"Boss, there will be a conference meeting tomorrow. Would you like to attend?" Lisa, his secretary asked.
No, I need to speak with you today. Book a private space in our usual hotel by 4 : 00pm." Liam instructed in a low voice.
"I will do just that sir." She replied and hung up. The door creep opened. Riley walked in, she headed straight to the closet searching for a nice dress, she stopped on remembering something and turned.
"We are having a meeting at the Williams Mansion, don't disgrace me by coming in your shabby clothes." She dished out instructions in a firm tone. It was really a disgraceful thing to go out with him now that she is the talk of the town, but her grandmother always wants every member of the family to attend the meeting.
Liam raised his head and faced her. "I don't have money to get new clothes" He objected immediately. She furrowed her brows. "Take out of your savings to get new clothes, I have been nice enough to place you on a salary, moreover, you didn't buy new clothes with the money I gave to you the last time" she shouted at him in surprise.
He laid back his head. "If you don't give me the money then I will just stay back." Liam said, in a finalised tone. He knew grandmother would be furious with her if he didn't show up.
Riley gritted her teeth out of frustration. "You..." She took a deep breath, realising pushing further will result in a great conflict that would give him more reason not to come. "Fine, I will send few dollars to you, make sure you get new clothes"
"Thank you wife" he teased, knowing fully well that she doesn't like for him to call her that.
She rolled her eyes at him and walked out angrily. "That foolish thing knows how to ruin my mood" she muttered, walking very fast to show how angry she was.
Liam checked his wrist watch. "It's 3: 45 pm, I need to head out now." He stood up from the couch and stepped out.
Riley was sitting with her Mum when he descended down the stairs.
"Don't you dare come with that scooter tomorrow" she warned without even taking a glance at him.
"You need to send more money then," he replied.
"You are shameless Liam, it's a pity you can't even do a thing for yourself. Evelyn chimed in.
Liam didn't say anything, he just walked out.
She turned to her. "I think it's time you divorce him. You now have a great reputation to keep, imagine going to conferences with that worthless guy, nobody will be willing to partner with you because of him" she stated, fully concentrating on her.
"I have thought about it Mum, I really need to date those that would help my company grow more than this. To be sincere, I always regret getting married to him, I should have opted for another person" Riley replied with a tint of regret in her tone.
"When will you start the processing of the divorce papers?."
"I have done that already, but I left it in my office." Evelyn leaped for joy on hearing that, she knew Riley will be able to give in to her suitors.
Liam walked into the private space in a local hotel. Lisa stood up and bowed briefly. He had thought of meeting with her before going to get new clothes.
"Firstly, I'm impressed with the report you sent to me, we made a lot of profits this month due to your hard work. It shows how committed you are" he appreciated with a smile on his face. He has only visited the company twice that month, and he saw how hectic work was, yet she was able to scale through.
"As a reward for the hard work you ve been inputting for the past three years, I want you to bid for the diamond dress that would be auctioned tomorrow no matter how much it costs"
A bright smile appeared on her face, she had it in mind to convince him into going to the auction with her.
"Thank you so much Mr Liamson. I would never forget this kindness of yours" she appreciated sincerely.
"Concerning Riley's company, I can see how hard this company is pushing her to the top, I need you to pause for now" he stated in a lower tone.
He has seen how work has been taking a toll on her for the past eight months. She took today as her off day because of how it is affecting her health, he felt pushing her more will result in a negative point.
"Noted, sir. The Smith group of companies which is operated by the first son, Hudson Smith approached us for help. They ve experience a massive downturn in their business which made many companies withdraw their partnerships, they are now in serious debt" she explained with her concentration fix on him.
Liam remembered Hudson Smith was a classmate in high school, he always bullied him and made sure no one got close to him, he made Liam suffer because his family was going through tough times then. Fortunately, things went back to normal after finishing high school. He regained his confidence and self esteem in college after his father enrolled him in training.
"Now he needs my help" he muttered. "Tell him to meet me at the office in two weeks time" he instructed, and stood up. "I think we are done here." He left after saying that.
He quickly got to the mall to get new clothes, as he entered, someone spotted him.
"Is that not Liam, the live-in son -in-law?" A woman asked, grabbing the attention of others while pointing at him.
"Yes he is very useless, I doubt if he had worked before." The crowd bursted into laughter.
I really didn't know why Riley got married to this disgusting guy, she should have gotten someone better.
I learnt he usually sleeps on the floor while his wife sleeps on the bed even in their new acquired home.
Liam shook his head and stepped out of the mall. It's nothing new to him since he always gets insulted and mocked by people at every opportunity they get, it was useless arguing with them.
As he tried to avoid a lady in return, he bumped into a masculine figure.
"How dare you bump into me?" Allen shouted angrily, a deep frown appeared on his face.
