Liam's phone began to ring as he drove on his scooter. He pulled out the phone, parked at a corner and answered the call right away.
"Gage, it's been three years since you've left, the family company you handed over to your younger brother, Levi is at the peak of collapsing as he has been careless with it lately.
The family has decided that you have three days to come back, if you don't come back by then the company would have been ruined then everybody will blame you for it forever and your company will not be spared either." His father, Bowen explained in a threatening tone.
"I have heard you Dad." He replied, his father hung up.
"How can I make Riley accept me within three days? Should I disclose my identity to her? No, that would ruin the plan. I need to come up with something very fast.
"I don't think accepting the offer is a good idea." Liam voiced out, Riley who was typing away on her laptop stopped and raised her head to him.
"Are you talking about the agreement with the family?" She asked, confirming before reacting.
"Yes, it is one of their schemes to bring you down, I am very sure about that?."
She scoffed out. "Who asked for your opinion?. Anyways, you made me remember something" she spoke, stood up and picked up a file. "Sign this" she instructed, tossing it on the table.
"O..okay." he hesitated for a few seconds before moving closer to check what was written on it.
"Divorce papers??." He questioned for confirmation, maybe it was a mistake, he picked the files staring at it.
"Yes, I don't want this marriage again, I can't continue to live with a miserable person, you are not even a man enough I curse the day I met you" she yelled out those words out of frustration.
His eyes widened at her outburst. "I'm sorry for everything that I might have done, I promise to make changes, I promise to do everything you want me to do. Please don't leave me" he pleaded in a shaking voice.
He couldn't imagine himself signing the divorce with the woman he loved wholeheartedly, and he was going to reveal his identity to her in three days.
"Don't you get it, I don't want you anymore. I'm in a position that a poor man is not needed in my life."
"It's this how you want to end three years of marriage? Is this how you want to end our lo..." He stopped talking on realising love never had a place in the marriage. He slapped himself mentally.
"I have never loved you and I will never love you, it is better I end this stigma called marriage. I don't want to be insulted because of you again and I need to live a peaceful and fulfilling life, there is no way I can achieve that with y..." She was interrupted by a ring from her phone.
"Hey." She called with so much excitement.
"Are you available tonight? I would love to treat you to dinner." A masculine voice was heard, she intentionally put it on speaker.
"I am always available for you. Where should I meet with you?."
"I will send the time and location to you, can't wait to see your beautiful face, I love you so much." The call ended, her cheeks reddened as she blushed.
She turned and faced him. "That is a real man, I love him."
"Are you leaving me for another man?" Liam asked in a soft voice, looking at her sadly.
"I already did, let me give you clues about him. He is one of the richest young business personalities in the city, whose family is in the top five while he is in the top four. He helped me get to top ten, how I wished he was the first person I met" she narrated with a drooling smile.
"Wow, someone is claiming what he didn't do." Her expression changed as soon as he said that.
"Sign those papers and get the hell out of my house." She shouted at him in fury.
He couldn't accommodate those insults and comparisons anymore. "I will leave but I'm not going to sign those papers. I need to let you know that he didn't get you to that position so don't think highly of him.
I pray you don't regret your actions later on." He finally let out the words he has been harbouring for years, threw the files on the floor and stepped out of the room with a frown full of disappointment.
He brought out his phone and sent a text to someone as he descended the stairs.
"Finally, the worthless son in law is leaving. I'm the happiest person in the world right now" Evelyn rejoiced and sipped out of her glass of wine with a mockery smile. He stopped, faced her.
"That's what you ve always wanted and you pushed her into doing it, don't worry things are working out in your way but you will regret it soon." He stated, and walked off.
"Are you okay sir?." The driver, Alex, asked on noticing Liam's facial expression. He was in deep thought that Alex couldn't get a response.
"He is nothing to me, just a slave who served under me for three years, we ve never shared a bed, hold hands and do things couples or friends do." Riley clarified Matt who was confused about their relationship.
"I feel better now, that moron doesn't value someone as beautiful, attractive and hardworking as you." He praised, caressing her cheek softly.
"Thank you for all you do, I really appreciate it. Everybody now sees me as a very important person all because of you. I love you so much" she appreciated in a sincere tone.
"I will enjoy the praise and your body for now, until you find out who I am." Matt thought, smirked secretly while she smiled happily.
