Chapter 7

"I heard you had a public divorce, you must have summoned a lot of courage to divorce that fool. You've endured more than enough from him, you are indeed a strong woman" Matt complimented, and winked at her. Riley smiled timidly. "Thank you honey, I had to let go of him, nothing good can ever come out of him. I did the public divorce because I want business tycoons to know about it and assign more contracts to me, many of them refused me because of Liam, and now that he is gone they won't think twice." She explained with a bright smile. "We need to celebrate, but first, we need to cheer [they raised their glasses of wine]. To your divorce, to more contracts and happiness." They smiled at each other and took a sip from the wine. "So, are you coming for the annual conference which will happen in two days time? Liamson will be making himself visible on that day, I can't wait to meet him personally" she stated, excitedly. Matt scoffed. "I would love to be there but I have a meeting I will be attending outside the country, so I will just send my personal assistant to represent me" he spoke nonchalantly and threw off his face. She squeezed her eyes. "Why are you acting this way?. Liamson is someone all the businessmen would be dying to see, everybody has been excited since it was announced earlier today, nobody wants to miss it, and here you are having no plans to be there." "There is nothing special about that guy, if I want a business collaboration with him, I will just walk into his office and demand for one or probably meet in our favourite bar." Matt spoke with so much boldness and confidence. Riley 's lips shaped into 'wow' "Are you that close?." She asked, waiting impatiently for his answers. He took his glass of wine and sipped out of it. "My plans are working, I need to say things that will allow me to lay with her tonight." He smirked secretly and dropped the glass of wine. "Liamson and I have been best of friends for many years, we did basically everything together, not until three years ago when he disappeared without trace and the functioning of everything he controlled was placed in the hands of his brother. Two weeks ago, he showed up at my mansion with regrets. He apologized for his actions which I forgave him instantly because I love my friend. Since then, we've been to most of our favourite spots. He is more wealthy than we could ever imagine, it would be hard for anyone to overthrow him from that top position he held." He narrated, maintaining a lackadaisical expression. "Woah, Matt is the perfect match for me, I am going to marry him no matter what it takes. He will introduce me to more business tycoons and Huxley Gage, I would never give chance for a rift to occur between us." She thought as her full concentration was on him. "It is working, this is the best time for me to strike" he muttered on realising she was lost in thought. He placed his hands on her wrist, she jolted off her thoughts and forced a smile. "I didn't know you had a close relationship with him." "Yes I do, you will be the first person I will tell this to, because our friendship is private. Riley I love you so much that I could do anything for you, I will make sure you become the first woman who has the highest position across the city then your name will be on the lips of many citizens. Please accept me as yours, I am ready to get married to you as soon as possible." He confessed his love to her with soothing words and a calm tone. She blushed so hard that her cheeks flushed. "I accept your proposal Matt, I always dream of the day you will ask me out officially, and it just happened, I am so excited." She screamed out and hugged him passionately. "I didn't know this would happen tonight, but don't worry I will get you a ring and propose to you in front of everybody" he promised and smiled evilly. "Should I book a hotel room for us? " he asked. "Yes, why not?. I can't wait for you to have all of me." She replied with a wink. Finally, my plan worked, Riley is all mine for tonight. Liam sighed out on seeing the loads of work which needs to be done before the event. His thoughts drifted to Riley. "I will make time to warn her tomorrow, I need to work tonight," he thought, bringing out his phone and dialing a line. "I need you to keep an eye on Riley and her lover, report to me tomorrow morning." He gave instructions and hung up. "This is what I have to do after neglecting work for three years, I deserve it though." He began to sort out the work according to its importance and demand. He realised his brother had done more harm than good to the company by squandering most of the profits which can affect the company. "It is my fault and I need to find solutions to it, but how?." This landed him into a deep thought, as he started thinking of ways to make it right.
