ONE KISS FROM YOU

CHAPTER 9 The was brief but it seemed like an aeon had passed before it had ended. Susan was stunned, her limbs felt like jelly, her lips felt swollen with desire and her heart was hammering as if she had run a marathon. "What did you do that for?" Susan asked, a little bemused. "Why does a man usually kiss a woman?" He countered. "Maybe I just wanted to say hello," "That is not how you say hello to an acquaintance." "Are we acquaintances? I thought we were a little more than that." "No, no! I am not going to indulge in your silly games, this evening is too lovely.". Susan could have kicked him for putting her on the spot and making her friends think the worst. And just as Susan was about to move, her blades got stuck, which in turn caused her to trip. She lost her balance and by coincidence fell on Dr Kelly before they both crashed and landed on the ice. Susan was now on top of him, her breath was suspended for a long moment, her blood pumping through her veins. Their eyes were locked together once again, everything stood still except for their two hearts beating in tune with each other. He was a consummate seducer, Susan thought. She suspected it came easily to him. It was this realisation that finally broke the spell. Getting up, Susan balanced herself on the blades before skating away. She had to be more cautious with him. Susan thought it seemed like everything was moving too fast and burned too bright. "We meet again," Horace said with a raised eyebrow as he skated next to her. "I think we have had enough interaction for one evening." "Oh, but we are just getting started." Susan updated her speed, but he was quick to follow. "How old are you? Twenty or twenty-one?" "Twenty-three." He nodded. "And aside from writing, I presume you work as a nanny." "Yes," she paused and shot a quick glance at him. "Fabrice tells me you are a bit of a romantic." "I guess I have to be. I mostly write romance and I believe it works to my advantage." "I think writing takes a lot more than talent and, as a writer, you know that." Susan paused and leaned against the railing. "Yes, I know that. And I also know that you must write from the heart." "Am sure once you finish a story you have been writing for months, it gives you a sense of accomplishment." "It does." "Is writing your hobby?" "No, it's more than a hobby because I am in it for the long haul." "Have you always wanted to be a writer?" "No, I just loved reading." "So what made you decide to write a romance?" "I know a web-novelist who writes for Dreame and she has always encouraged me to write, since I enjoy reading so much, but it was when one of her web-novels was adapted into a romantic comedy series, that I decided to write my own stories." "How long does it take you to finish a w*******l?" "One to two months and I am able to do that because I devote all my spare time to writing." "But I can also see that you have a social life." I mostly hang out with friends from the writing circle." Susan began to wonder about him and his love life, but didn't have the courage to find out. Fabrice staked over to where they stood talking. "Brigitte and I are going for drinks and then dinner. Are you going to join us?" "I would love to." "Alright, Brigitte and I will wait for you at the entrance," Fabrice staked away. Susan turned to Dr Kelly and announced; "I will have to go." He nodded and said, "It's been nice talking to you." "Same here," Susan agreed. "Perhaps we can meet again? Another time maybe?" "Maybe?" "Can we exchange numbers?" Susan thought about not giving out her number as she realised how her emotions were getting out of hand. But then she remembered the two kisses they had shared and decided to relinquish her number. The next day, Susan accompanied Mrs Lockhart to the vet with a king Charles spaniel named Gus. It was to have his plaster removed and allowed to cautiously walk on all four legs. After leaving the vet, they went to lunch at a restaurant that had a menu for comfort food which included scallops, chicken pie, lobster, and strawberry millefeuille. They were joined by Mr Lockhart and they all ate in a leisurely fashion. "Can you drive, Susan?" "Yes, I can," she answered. "We will get you a car and then you can take it for a spin or two and see how you get on." "Since the boys will be changing schools, having a car might come in handy for carpooling and driving them to their after-school activities." "Very well." "Have you thought about which new school you want the boys to attend?" "Yes, I have. What do you think of Benton?" "I believe they have extensive grounds for the pupils to play and learn and offer weekly and part-time boarders as well as day students." "They also have a holistic approach which fits into your ethos of nurturing and developing talent to prepare a child." After lunch, Mr Lockhart went back to the office while Mrs Lockhart and Susan returned home and sat down to a rousing game of snap before it was time to pick up the boys from school.
