Chapter 2: An Insignificant Person

839 Words
Since the day he was bitten by Lily, Daniel has never returned to the villa on the hill. But his romantic affairs continue. He has practically taken over the gossip news page in Los Angeles. Almost every day, his romantic affairs are reported - today with this young model and tomorrow with that socialite. In short, he enjoys himself without a care in the world, not needing anyone's concern. His father has gone abroad for treatment and will return tomorrow. As a result, the entire Hall family is extremely busy. "Mom, will my brother come back today?" Robert Hall's pale little face squeezed out a faint smile. His innocent and bright appearance evoking sympathy from Lily. Eight-year-old Robert Hall is eighteen years younger than Daniel Hall. He is the result of Daniel's father's youthful indiscretions with an unkonw starlet. Later, the starlet developed cancer and couldn't raise Robert, so she sent him back to the Hall family. It is said that Daniel's mother couldn't accept this fact and fell into depression. She couldn't bear it and jumped off the building in front of him. That year, Daniel was twenty-one years old, and Robert was three years old. It was five years ago. It was also the year, Lily had just become Daniel's girlfriend, and one year later, she unexpectedly became his stepmother. Life is unpredictable. Robert has a difficult life, but he is strong and makes people feel pity for him. Not long after he was born, he was diagnosed with severe anemia. In order to save the child, his mother worked day and night, and eventually became ill from overwork and contracted cancer. Lily hugged his shoulder affectionately and touched his little face, smiling with raised eyebrows, "Robert, why do you miss your brother? He isn't good to you." He pouted and thought for a moment before asking, "Who is my brother good to? He isn't good to you either, but you still draw his portrait over and over again." Lily's smile froze for a moment, and she covered his little mouth, whispering in a voice that only the two of them could hear, "Good boy. You must never tell anyone about this, no one at all. Keep it a secret, understand?" Although he didn't understand, he nodded obediently and promised, "Don't worry, Mom. I won't tell anyone. It's a secret that only the two of us know." She smiled contentedly and gently rubbed his head. The secen of their whispered conversation happened to caught by Daniel's eye. In his view, they must be discussing him behind his back and saying bad things about him. He coughed, reminding the two not far away. His expression remained cold and aloof, looking at them as if they were trash, full of disdain and contempt. Lily was already used to it, but Robert felt somewhat lost. He didn't know what he had done wrong to make his brother despise him like this. Every time he saw his brother's cold and emotionless eyes, he couldn't help but feel sad and want to cry. Hanging his head low, Robert looked devastated. Lily gently patted his shoulder to comfort him silently, then glanced at the woman standing beside Daniel and furrowed her brows slightly. This woman bore some resemblance to her, both in facial features and demeanor. She didn't look like the seductive women he had brought back before, but rather like a delicate and pitiable young girl, seemingly around eighteen or nineteen years old. Seeing her, Lily unexpectedly thought of herself five years ago. Just like her, enchanting, stunning, and exceptionally pure. "Let me introduce her. Her name is Maria Scott, the youngest daughter of the Scott family," Daniel said. Then he affectionately, as he walked over, holding her waist. His eyes were full of affection as he gazed at the delicate young woman beside him, who blushed and looked back at him. They understood each other and only had eyes for each other. Lily lowered her gaze and smiled briefly, and a bitter expression was visible on her face. But it lasted only a moment, and she returned to her normal self, showing no sign of anything out of the ordinary. As the mistress of the Hall family, she naturally stood up to greet them. Although she didn't know who Maria Scott was, the surname Scott was very rare in LA. Besides the influential Scott family in the north of the city, there were no others. Maria also noticed Lily and looked at her with surprise and scrutiny. Seeing Lily proactively approaching, Maira, due to her good upbringing, learned to observe others and be humble and polite. She also walked up to greet her, thinking that she must be the woman who relied on Daniel to gain power and was now the mistress of the Hall family. Although she felt immense disdain in her heart, she didn't show it. She was about to speak, but Daniel interrupted coldly, "Just someone unimportant. Let's go to the living room. There's wine that you like."
