Chapter 11: Nana Babaylan

1651 Words
Aiden As I scrolled through the dusty pages of the diary, the fading ink began to throb with an eerie familiarity. My heart raced as I came across an entry outlining The Coven of the Wyrd, a term that evoked deep memories within me. The tale of The Coven of the Wyrd, a sisterhood intertwined in the delicate dance of magic and fate, lingers in the shadows of my memory. We are bonded not only by our sisterhood, but also by the ancients' whispered secrets that resonate down the years. 'To know the heart of the storm, one must first embrace the chaos within.' The path to acceptance within our Coven is fraught with challenges, the most difficult of which is The Trial of Fate. Each initiate must face their innermost fears and prove themselves to the Masters. Only those who emerge uninjured, hardened as steel in the flames of adversity, will join among us. 'In the crucible of shadows, truth is forged; only the resilient shall wear the mantle of night.' I've gone under several names, but I'm most notable as Viraesca Moonshadow. However, beyond this exterior is the spirit of Nana Babaylan, a title that evokes both admiration and fear. I am a guardian of old wisdom and the manifestation of curses etched into the fabric of reality. 'In every curse lies a tale; every tale bears the weight of its maker.' My staff, the Shroud of the Ancient, possesses immense power. The twisted wood, carved with protective symbols, functions as both a shield and a weapon. It gives me control over shadows, shrouding me in darkness while I tread the boundary between realms. The Curse Jar, a vessel of incredible power, sits beside me. It contains the disasters of my opponents, a sealed treasure of chaos and anguish. Those who attempt to challenge me are entangled in its embrace, their fate permanently altered by my hand. 'What is a curse but a reflection of one's own heart? When cast, it returns, a shadow in the night' Among the many perils we confront, none is more formidable than Z--- L-------, the Damned Witch. She dances on the brink of insanity, her goals threatening to tear the delicate threads of our Coven. Her thirst for power knows no bounds, and her presence fills the air with undeniable tension. As I pen these words, I know that the storm is brewing, and the trials that lie ahead will test not only my strength, but the very basis of our sisterhood. The ancients' words get louder, guiding my hand and warning me to step carefully on the path ahead. 'To walk the line between fate and free will is to embrace the dance of life; heed the call, for destiny waits for no one' -Nana Viraesca My breath caught in my throat, and I nearly dropped the book from shock. Another layer of mystery had been revealed: Nana Babaylan was, in fact, Viraesca Moonshadow, a member of the Wyrd's coven. The puzzle pieces clicked into place as I recalled Felicia's disturbing words. 'Who walks in the light of the witches yet never claims the name? Who watches over, despite the fact that her presence is hidden in the darkness?' Ngayon na realize ko na it all makes sense. Everything began to make sense! Something extraordinary happened while my gaze was fixated on the diary. The air around me shimmered, and burning, fiery ink erupted from the pages, swirling and coiling like a living creature. Words began to emerge in the air, bright and forceful, as if Nana Babaylan, the real Viraesca Moonshadow, were announcing her presence. "Aiden" The ink crackled with energy, and each word was infused with a sense of urgency. "I've been waiting for you, knowing you'd show up at the perfect time. I'm Viraesca Moonshadow, the curse-bearer and dark arts weaver. But follow my advice, taking care of yourself is essential, because trusting is a fragile art." The blazing script pulsed in time with my heartbeat, and the message echoed through me. "Remember what I taught you, for these are the keys to your survival. The power that you possess is unlike that of any witch, even I and the Coven are uncertain of its actual nature. You are destined for a path uncharted." With a flourish, the ink twisted into a new shape, expressing a more serious threat. "Soon, you shall meet one who holds the key to the future.. She is known as the Keeper of Prophecy and Weaver of Visions. Listen closely to her riddles, for they will guide your path, I am the voice that resonates in quiet, the guide through deep shadows. I unravel the outcome in whispers and slowly ooze through dreams. With time threads, I weave the truth, where futures interweave. Who am I, oh seeker, when visions of tomorrow emerge?" Nawala saglit ang boses ni Nana Babaylan. "But heed my warning, because there is another who walks in the dark, a damned witch of untold origin. You must exercise caution in her presence, as her actual nature remains hidden. Her riddle goes as follows in the domain of the damned:, I walk the line between life and death, a specter cloaked at night. Once a soul, now a whisper, lost in the light. I lurk in shadows, a mystery yet untold. Am I a memory, a ghost, or an ancient tale?" A wave of confusion washed over me, leaving me reeling. I'd just discovered a significant secret about Nana Babaylan, and now another puzzle awaited me. Who was the damned witch in the second riddle? The first riddle was definitely about Rhea Sablehart, whose name I recognized from whispered predictions. However, the second riddle felt like a ghost on the fringe of my memory, an unknown thing that Nana Babaylan had never mentioned. It gnawed at my thoughts, prompting me to hunt for ties that might lead me to the answers I so desperately sought. Without Nana Babaylan, I was lost. I didn't know where to begin my search. Should I try to find her, or should I concentrate on solving the mystery of the damned witch? However, the riddle urges me not to pursue the truth about that witch, leaving me even more confused. Frustration creeps up within me, as does a nagging sensation of helplessness. Nana's diary mentions a power I possess, something so elusive that neither she nor the Coven understand it. But I have no idea about it, either. I've always known I was raised by a witch, and that I am a witch, but... I know nothing about this supposed power within me. "Who do you believe this damned witch might be?" The voice. Once again, spoke out of nowhere! "The answer lies there, Aiden. To the Garden of Untold." ------ -Manor of the 7 Keeps- Xertha, the Manor of The Seven Keeps, stood as a symbol of ancient strength, its intimidating figure etched against the darkening sky. "Who initiated the heaviest punishment for the 9th Slayer?" A tall, lanky figure shrouded in shadows, he exudes an eerie sense of emptiness. His short, dark hair is flecked with silver, contrasting dramatically with his pale skin. Draped in dark robes that appear to absorb the very light around him, he has an intriguing aura that evokes both fascination and apprehension. "Answer me! Ignarion, Oceandor, Petravon, Aegirion, Thalorian and Vortexion." "It is I, my Lord." The Knight of Enigmatic Unwillingness answered the Lord of the Keeps. "You see the world as a battlefield, a never-ending arena where every moment represents an opportunity to seize and conquer. Your philosophy is based on the concept that life happens in the moment, demanding action and risk-taking. But, I must ask, what motivated you to intervene in the violent confrontations between the Angels and the Fireborn Zealots?" The mysterious man asked once again. "Lucian embodies loyalty within the ranks of the Path Slayers, a warrior whose devotion to his comrades is beyond reproach. Yet, during a pivotal confrontation with the Fireborn Zealots, his sudden declaration to halt the battle confounded all. In that critical moment, he sought to reveal the sacred punishment that loomed over their actions, a move that left allies questioning his timing and foes uncertain of their next steps. This perplexing decision has ignited whispers of doubt and curiosity about the true motivations behind his unwavering loyalty." The Knight answered motionless and still. "He knows the sacred punishment?!" The man's voice trembled with barely contained fury, as if he were on the brink of an explosive rage. "Apparently, Yes!" The General of Deep Promises interrupted their conversation. "It is his hometown, Luminara City, that has bestowed upon him this invaluable knowledge." He added. "I possess a profound understanding of existence and non-existence; often regarded as a guide, yet I maintain a deliberate distance from others. Thus, I must say, he deserved it. Well done, Aegirion." Standing up, the man walked up to the window, his eyes fixed on the moon, a bright sphere shining on the night sky. "I perceive the world as a series of cycles, firmly believing in the delicate balance between existence and oblivion. Now, tell me, how many Slayers are aware of our sacred punishment?" "I am attentively observing their movements, my lord." The Guardian of Hard Sights answered. "Yet, observing the Shadow Vanguard poses a significant challenge, considering they are known as the Masters of Shadows." A quiet laugh escaped the man, unheard by others, as he smirked while looking far into the distance. "In the darkness where the Path Slayers tread. Those who dare to mislead will suffer the consequences. No chains or fires can mark their end. However, a silence deeper than the darkness can convey. What was once theirs is now gone in the abyss. A soul erased, permanently destroyed. What am I?"
