jump scares and jokes

The room was dim, the flickering light from the TV casting eerie shadows across the space. The wind outside howled, rattling the windows as the group huddled together, watching a horror movie. The tension was thick, and just as the creepiest part came on, Ivy screamed, her hands flying up to her face. "WTF?!" Elsa cursed under her breath. "Ivy, it's just a movie!" she groaned, clearly annoyed by Ivy’s overreaction. Ethan, who was so engrossed in the movie, didn’t say a word. He was glued to the screen, the suspense keeping him silent. Alex, however, was unusually quiet too—too quiet. It was odd. He usually had something to say, but tonight, he didn’t. Then, another jump-scare hit, and Ivy practically leaped into the air, her heart racing. She scrambled to find safety and ended up sitting on Elsa’s lap. "You’ve got to be kidding me," Elsa complained, trying to push her off but laughing a little despite herself. "Ivy, you're such a mess." Ivy ignored her, too caught up in the fear to care. She turned to Ethan, her wide eyes finally getting his attention. "Ethan, are you even watching this?!" Before he could respond, Ethan stood up, flicking the light switch. The room brightened instantly, and there, on the couch, was Alex—completely asleep. The group burst out laughing, the tension of the horror movie melting away. But their laughter was interrupted by the sound of a car engine coming from outside. "Ivy!" they heard someone shout from outside. "Mummy’s here!" Elsa sighed dramatically, holding her hands up. "Please, leave my house," she begged, knowing exactly how things were about to go down. Ivy smirked, standing up with a playful twinkle in her eye. "So early? Bye, baby!" She kissed Elsa on the cheek, then turned to Ethan. "Bye, Mr. Serious." She walked over to Alex, giving him a quick glance. "He’s such a mess," she muttered, shaking her head, before hurriedly heading out the door. Ethan tapped Alex on the shoulder. "Okay, I guess we should start going too. Your mum is coming for us." "the snake woman " alex said. "Wait, is he saying his dream aloud?" She laughed, as they tried to wake Alex up. Just then, the sound of Elsa’s mum’s car engine filled the air again. "Well, your mum is home," Elsa said with a grin. "A lot of advice we’re going to hear now." "Yeah," ethan added with a sarcastic smirk. "A lot." Suddenly, Alex jerked up, his eyes wide. "What?!" Elsa and Ethan screamed in unison, and Alex looked around in a daze. "What’s going on?" The whole room erupted into laughter again, The door swung open, and in walked Elsa's mum, Mrs. Summer, with a warm look on her face. "Good evening, mum," Elsa greeted, "Good evening, Mrs. Summer," Ethan and Alex chimed in unison. "Hey, guys, you leaving already?" Mrs. Summer asked, noticing their bags by the door. "Yes, ma," Ethan replied. "Isn't it late?" "You should have left quite early," Mrs. Summer said with a sigh. "You have school, remember?" Mrs summer quickly changed the subject. "Wait, did you guys watch a horror movie?" Before anyone could respond, Elsa jumped into the conversation"no". "You’re such a liar, Alex. Drooling all over the place. You guys can’t scare him. Come on, he’s just a little cutie." Elsa, narrowing her eyes, gave him a death stare. "Shut up, Alex." "Alright, head home already" Mrs. Summer said, waving them off. "Good night, Mrs. Summer. Good night, Elsa," Ethan and alex said as he grabbed his bag. "Good night, guys," Elsa said, as they made their way out the door. The alarm rang, jolting Ethan awake. He groggily sat up in bed, stretching as he rubbed his eyes. The familiar sounds of clattering dishes and muffled voices came from downstairs. It was surely his mum getting breakfast ready, just like every morning. Ethan groaned, pulling himself out of bed. He shuffled into the bathroom, quickly taking a shower. He brushed his teeth, scrubbed his hair, and dried off with a towel, running his fingers through his damp hair. He took a deep breath, then grabbed his bag, heading downstairs. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as he walked into the kitchen, his mum busy at the stove. She looked up with a smile as he entered. "Morning, love," she greeted, flipping pancakes onto a plate. "Morning, mum," Ethan muttered "I'm going to be late if I stay longer, Mum," Ethan said as his mum placed pancakes in front of him. "Just have a bite, okay?" she replied. "Okay," Ethan mumbled, taking a quick bite before rushing out the door. "Bye, Mum!" "Ethan!" she called, but he was already running down the street.
