NICHOLAS DENVER
I help Ms. Hope into her apartment, and I can see that she is trying to understand what is making me so interested in her.
Well, I believe she knows that I like her. She's not a child, right?
No CEO would go this far with his employee if he didn't have feelings for her, but since she wants to act as if she does not know my feelings and intentions, then...
God!
This is getting too much.
Firstly, I am the father of her child and if she finds out that I am the one who forced myself on her on that fateful night, she will resign and run away with my baby.
I know.
This ought to be good news, especially for grandma who has been forcing me to get married without agreeing to accept any lady I bring home.
I am sure that when she sees that I already have a baby in the making, hopefully a boy, she will accept being the grandmother of my child.
Moreover, Ms. Hope is from the Hope family, right?
The Hope family are wealthy, so why is she my assistant secretary?
What is she even doing here in Maxil, living on one of my family's estates when her family has a thousand estates back home and even here in Maxil?
What the hell is going on?
I have all these thoughts at the back of my mind as I am supervising her groceries being arranged in the open-plan kitchen in her house.
I have a lot of digging to do, I have a lot to uncover.
No wonder I was drawn to Ms. Hope the way I was.
She carries my seed inside her.
''Are you sure you can continue to come to work in your condition?'' I asked Ms. Hope.
As soon as I asked her that question, I noticed that she became very worried.
It is like she regrets telling me that she is pregnant.
''President Denver, please, don't take my job from me. I can work, regardless of if I am pregnant or not.'' She is begging me.
I feel so ashamed, upset, disappointed, just name it.
This is a Hope family lady. Why is she begging me?
My brain is spinning, my head is turning.
''Ms. Hope...'' I want to beg her to please stop calling me President Denver. She should call me honey, or baby. I am the father of her child.
How do I make it known to her?
My heart wants to stop beating.
To think I fell in love with her before I even knew who she was, so one can only imagine how I feel now.
''You are not going to lose your job at Denver Group.'' I made that clear to her first so that at least she could calm down.
I see relief in her eyes, and I am excited about it.
She nods and thanks me.
''Anytime you feel too weak to come to work, please just let me know.'' I grab her cell phone, and I am about to punch in my direct phone number when I see the screen saver on her phone.
On the screensaver is a picture of three people; one person is Ms. Hope, the next person that I easily recognize is Vincent Hope, and the other person is Mrs. Hope, the wife of Vincent Hope.
What the bloody hell is going on?
Elizei Hope is the daughter of Vincent Hope, the man who was murdered three months ago. It's been four months now.
I slowly raise my eyes to look at Elizei and our eyes lock as she comes to understand that I have uncovered her true identity.
''Ms. Hope?'' I uttered her name again in a voice that barely cracked out of my lips.
Elizei starts crying.
Ha!
Have you ever seen a man so confused?
I don't know what to do. Should I hug her?
Should I comfort her and tell her sorry about what happened to her parents?
Should I tell her that I am the man who forced her to do what she didn't want to do on that fateful night?
I glance at Marcus and eye him to comfort her for me, while I do what any CEO in my position would do.
Walk away!
Yes.
Shame on me.
I walked away from the mother of my child after she broke down in front of me.
I am inside the car, waiting for Marcus to come out and take me home.
I swear, I can't breathe.
So, I r***d Vincent Denver's daughter?
If that man were alive to hear what I did, I would be history.
But, why is Elizei here in Maxil?
I heard that her uncle, Lazarus Hope, now runs her father's company, which is fine for now, because Elizei can't handle the crocodiles that are lurking in the business world, but she should have paradise to herself back home.
She shouldn't be here working for Denver Group, taking a salary from me.
I am happy to see Marcus returning to the car.
Please, I need him by me in case I suffocate to death.
''How is she?'' I asked.
Marcus looks at me with meaning.
''Bad. I am not comfortable leaving her alone, honestly. I had to leave because of how deeply she was crying. It's not good for her, especially considering that she is pregnant.''
The more Marcus talks about her, the more I want to faint.
Okay, if he is not comfortable enough to leave her alone, why did he go back to the car?
''Marcus, go and stay with her. I will drive home by myself.'' I don't even know what I am saying at this point because I am going crazy.
Marcus looks at me like the mad man that I currently am.
''I should stay with her?'' He asked me rhetorically.
I didn't even reply to Marcus, I just looked out of the window towards Ms. Hope's house.
