Episode 9: Mother’s Secrets, Father’s Lies
Word Count: ~2,000
11:25 a.m. – Executive Floor, Wolfe Enterprises
Aurora stood frozen, her face drained of all color.
The news headline was burned into her eyes:
> “Exclusive: Aurora Bennett – Secret Daughter of Wolfe Dynasty?”
Across the screen, her mother’s youthful face flashed again. In a 1993 photo, her mom was smiling beside Damian’s father—Christopher Wolfe—at a charity event. Close. Too close.
A million questions screamed in Aurora’s head.
Behind her, Damian was silent.
“Say something,” she whispered.
“I don’t know what to say,” he replied quietly.
She turned to him. “You think this is true?”
He didn’t answer.
That silence hurt more than anything Clara had ever done.

Later – Empty Conference Room
Clarissa closed the blinds and locked the door as Aurora collapsed into a chair.
“This isn’t real,” Aurora muttered. “My mom never even mentioned the Wolfe family. She raised me alone. She was a school teacher!”
Clarissa sat across from her, voice low. “The press is already spinning it. Illegitimate daughter. Secret inheritance. ‘Affair with the boss.’ You name it.”
Aurora clutched her head. “This is insane.”
“Clara leaked the story,” Clarissa said.
“How could she know?”
“Because she’s had a private investigator following you since your second week.”
Aurora’s chest tightened. “This is why she planted the camera. She wasn’t just after the relationship… she wanted proof I didn’t belong.”
Clarissa looked hesitant. “And there’s one more thing…”
She slid over a paper file.
Aurora opened it—and saw an old birth record. Her birth certificate.
There was a second version.
One that listed Christopher Wolfe as the father.
Aurora’s eyes blurred.
“No,” she whispered. “That can’t be right. This has to be fake. My mother would’ve told me…”

3:15 p.m. – Damian’s Office
Damian stared out his window, shoulders tense.
He hadn’t spoken since the report aired. His mind raced—his childhood memories twisted. Could his father really have had a secret daughter? And if so… was she now standing outside his door?
Aurora knocked once.
“Come in,” he said without turning.
She stepped in, still holding the file. Her hands trembled. “You’ve seen it, haven’t you?”
He nodded.
“It’s a lie,” she said. “Or if it’s not… I didn’t know.”
“I believe you.”
She blinked.
Damian turned around finally. His eyes searched hers.
“I was angry,” he admitted. “Because suddenly, it felt like everything between us was a setup.”
“I didn’t plan this—”
“I know. But that doesn’t mean it’s not real.”
Aurora stepped forward. “I came to you with nothing. Just a resume and bad luck.”
“And I gave you chaos,” he said. “But I can’t walk away now.”
Her voice cracked. “Even if I’m your father’s daughter?”
Damian flinched—but his eyes didn’t leave hers.
“I don’t know what the truth is. But I know what I feel when I look at you.”
Their hands brushed.
And then he asked quietly, “Will you come with me?”
“Where?”
“To see your mother.”

6:00 p.m. – The Bennett Home
Her mother’s hands trembled as she poured tea into cracked china cups.
Aurora sat stiffly beside Damian, her heart pounding. The house felt colder than usual. Like it was holding its breath.
“Mama,” Aurora said softly, “I need to ask you something. And I need the truth.”
Her mother glanced at Damian. Then back to her daughter.
“It’s about him,” she said.
“Yes,” Aurora whispered. “And about his father.”
Mrs. Bennett sat down across from them. Then slowly, she reached into a drawer and pulled out an old photo album.
Page after page, memories flipped.
Until she stopped.
There it was again—the picture. Her and Christopher Wolfe.
“He wasn’t what the world thought he was,” her mother began quietly. “To them, he was a billionaire. A gentleman. But to me… he was a young man grieving a wife who died too soon.”
“You knew him?” Aurora asked.
Her mother nodded. “I was a nurse. He came to the clinic often. I didn’t know who he was at first. But we talked. Every time.”
Aurora’s voice shook. “Did you… love him?”
“I was twenty-two. Alone. He was kind. And sad. And yes… for a moment, I did.”
“And me?”
Her mother’s eyes filled. “When I found out I was pregnant, he offered money. A quiet place in the country. But I refused. I didn’t want to raise you in his shadow.”
Aurora swallowed hard. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
“Because you were mine. Not his. I didn’t want you defined by a man who chose legacy over love.”
Damian was silent, hands folded.
Finally, he said, “My father was powerful. But he made many mistakes.”
Aurora looked at him. “Does this change things?”
Damian met her gaze.
“I don’t care whose blood is in your veins. I care who you choose to be.”

9:00 p.m. – Outside the Bennett Home
Damian walked her to the gate.
“I’ll talk to the media team,” he said. “We’ll shut the story down with a counter-narrative.”
Aurora looked at him, then reached for his hand. “What if it comes back?”
“It will.”
“Then?”
“Then we face it.”
She leaned in, resting her forehead against his chest.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
Damian pressed a kiss into her hair.
And in that quiet moment, amidst lies, bloodlines, and the cameras waiting beyond the gate—they found something that felt like the only truth that mattered.
Each other.
