I woke up in a ... .House? How exactly did I get here? This wasn't right. Memories came bursting through my head and I got up from the comfy bed immediately, sitting upright. From the scent that surrounded the room, I knew I was in my mate's room. This was the special house cleaned up for him and his companions. The room was gigantic and spacious. The walls were painted in a beautiful shade of cream aligning with the furniture's gold accents. The pack really outdid itself in preparing this room.
I shook my head as I realized I shouldn't be admiring the room. Rather, I should be thinking of how I would leave and sneak into my room. I'll be damned if my dad noticed I didn't spend the night in the house. But the smell the room held was so intoxicating, compelling even. My mate's scent had to be the perfect scent. I laid down back on the bed, sniffing in my mate's scent and registering it in my brain.
"Do I smell that nice," my mate said coming out of an open door that I presumed led to the bathroom.
He stood tall like a Greek god, beads of water dripping down his chest.
Could I wake up to this every morning? I said to myself buried in my thoughts.
"I can safely conclude, I look that good too," he said, smirking.
I buried my face deeper into the pillow as my cheeks were red with embarrassment.
"Hey, freckles. Don't feel shy. Look at me." He said as he raised my face.
"Todd! Dude, we gotta get going." The man who introduced himself as my mate's Gamma, called out. Todd moved away from me and I felt cold in the spot his hands were on, on my face.
"I'll be down in a minute or two," Todd called back.
"Freckles, I've got to get going. I'll come over to your house later in the day."
"Why do you call me Freckles?" I couldn't help but ask.
"It fits you. I don't know."
"I'm sorry about yesterday. I should've asked you." Todd muttered, looking nervous.
"It's fine… Do you want me to be your mate or was it the heat of the moment?" I asked, frowning.
"I can't answer that now," he admitted truthfully. "I'm confused right now, freckles. Let me take some time to adjust to this. You too. We are mates, no matter what we are bound for life."
"I've got to get going." He said, shutting me up as I was about to ask another question.
"I'll see you later."
"Will you?" I asked, feeling like a clingy i***t.
"Yes freckles, you're my mate and I am yours." He quickly walked over to the bed and cupped my face.
"Can I kiss you?" I nodded even though his lips were already on mine. I smiled and relaxed into the kiss. Things will be okay.
TODD'S POV
With my thoughts centered on my mate, I walked slowly around Rseundo Cove Pack. I know I had an unexplainable, silent beef with Alpha Xavier and he might not be classified as a nice person but he was a good Alpha. I admired the way he organized his pack and its surroundings were top-notch. I already had a special liking for the pack. To crown it all, this was my mate's pack.
By the time I got to Alpha Xavier's house, I was informed that he had already gone to the training ground. This was just ten minutes past five a.m, The sun was yet to rise and the pack was still enveloped in hushed stillness. Shaking my head, I headed to the training ground with my Gamma and warriors.
"So guys, this will be our first training day. Let's make the best of it."
Getting to the training ground, we met Alpha Xavier with his warriors already doing their warm-up session.
"Finally, you grace us with your presence," he said, sarcastically. I rolled my eyes at his statement and I gave no response.
"We've been waiting for you and your warriors for the past thirty minutes." The Beta whined, his voice irritating my ears. I already resented him despite the fact he was my mate's father.
"Seems you forgot to inform me and my warriors that the time was shifted earlier," I said, annoyance laced in my voice.
To further my annoyance, he chuckled. "I did last night, but you were probably busy."
"See, let's forget our previous differences. We have a task ahead of us, " Alpha Xavier said.
"Agreed."
"Let's begin!" I said, addressing my warriors, as they joined the Rseundo Cove Pack warriors.
Hours passed and we were still training. I was drenched with my sweat and I decided it was time for us to take a break. While the warriors were mingling with each other, I and Xavier walked over to a corner in the training ground.
"We have to find a way to stop these rogues. Words came in this morning that they attacked the Blood Nome Pack."
"Seriously? We cannot let these rogues continue with their attacks," I declared, my eyes glinting with unease.
Xavier nodded in agreement. "I can't help but agree. If we don't do anything, their boldness will definitely increase."
"Okay guys, training today is over. Be here by five a.m. prompt tomorrow. We have plans to execute." With that, the warriors left excluding Alpha Xavier, his beta, and I and my Gamma.
With the training ground empty, we began strategizing and scheming our plan. Our minds were in sync and our plans were beginning to become a harmonious blend of our strengths and wisdom.
However, amid our planning, I felt uneasy and the air around me seemed to be filled with tension. I felt a sharp pang of pain shoot through my consciousness. I gripped the weapon stack at the wall for balance as I pondered on what was the issue.
"What is the issue?" Eric asked.
Before I could reply to him, my mind link opened and heard the distressed voice of Joel, my beta. Hearing his voice, the hairs on my skin stood as I became alert.
"Todd, I'm sorry and I hate to interrupt your trip but it's urgent. Luna was attacked by a rogue and as I speak, we're on our way to the pack hospital.
On hearing this, my heart clenched with fear and grief. My precious mom! My mom lay in danger because of these ruthless rogues. No, it can't be!
"I need to take care of some emergencies in my pack. Please I'll be going alone, my warriors will stay back to continue training."
"Could I know what's wrong?"
"The heartless rogues attacked my mom, I need to go back to my pack."
Alpha Xavier nodded understandingly," I understand. Family comes first. We'll continue training in your absence."
Without a moment's hesitation, I shifted to my wolf, James. I push away all my pains and thoughts as I focus on my trip ahead. I ran towards Rseundo Cove Pack's territory and as I crossed over, my mind was divided into two. One part of my mind was consumed with thoughts of my conversation with my mate earlier in the morning where I promised her I would be coming back and the other part was preoccupied with thoughts of my mom's condition at the moment.
On reaching my pack, I rushed to the pack's hospital. In my haste, I ignored the greetings of some of my pack members. As I was being led to her room, my heart thumped in anxiety. Opening the door to her hospital room, I find my mother surrounded by the pack doctor and the pack healers. They looked down at her with eyes mixed with concern and determination.
"Good evening, Alpha." The pack doctor greeted, his head hanging low.
"What is wrong with her?" I asked, ignoring his greeting as I looked at my mom lying unconscious on the hospital bed.
"There was the presence of wolfsbane in her system and I was able to remove it from her bloodstream through heat. By this time next week, she'll be up and well. Her injury would take time to heal because of the absence of your father, her mate." I nodded, relieved that there was hope.
"However, being her blood you could fasten the process by being around her."
"Momma," I whispered, gently fondling her fingers. "I'm here with you. Please be strong for me."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I got no response from the woman whose smile brightened up my day.
"I'll stay. In two days, I'll be going back to the Rseundo Cove Pack to inform Alpha Xavier of the abrupt changes." I said, addressing the doctor.
Joel was going to take my place in the training. My mind goes to the mate. What would happen to us now?
I wish we met in a different circumstance. I didn't want to bring her to my pack to a position I was sure she wasn't ready for.
Do I have a choice in this matter?
