Wandering about the lonely highway, touring around for an orphanage home.
Jane walked down the street where the popular library is found, they had travelled to Seattle town. A small town, with goods and well, functioned community. Seattle town community establish about three orphanages for caring for homeless kids.
As she walked past a signboard displaying its name " Nightie bar", she heard a call from behind, the silvery voice which sounds calm and alive.
Jane turned backwards startled at the person with a lady-like voice. Her brain sure interpreted that the person was a lady.
" Hello" she replied as the sunlight reflected into her eyes. Using her left arm to block the sunlight, for her retina to penetrate the ladies image.
" You are Jane, right?" Lilian pointed out, without formally asking of her name, she spoke.
" yeah……how did you know that?" she sound, confused as she stuttered. Her lips glued together making the word experience some difficulty to come out.
" hahaha… I'm sorry, don't be surprised because I can see it written all over your face already" she stated.
" oh….I am sure surprised, how did you know that was my name? have you meant me before" because you were simply very correct.
" hmmm…. Ain't you the late popular man's daughter? Mr Michale Kelm?" She mentioned her dad's full name.
"Oh…. I'm sorry, I forgot that my parents were that popular" she grin.
" So…. How can I help you?" Jane cut in.
" hmmm… I need to have a conversation with you, I just need five minutes of your time." She spoke squinting her eyes.
" Okay. You can" she stuttered, walking forward insidiously.
Jane walked behind her as she led the eat into the bar, just a stone throw away.
They entered into the refreshing bar, chilling with the Air conditioner as she asked for a fruity juice to smooth the conversation as it goes.
"So what's up?" Jane spoke out as she sat properly on the levelled red couch.
" Okay, A friend of yours sent me to you, actually I didn't get to know you, due to your late's dad popularity but through your friend." She said lying through her teeth.
" My friend?" She asked in her puzzlement.
" wait for a second, which of my friends are you talking about here?" she asked curiously.
" Because literally, I only have just two friends" she spoke and narrowed her eyes, concentrating on her like as the words fell out.
" I know, you have two friends, Nolan and Annie" she confirmed promptly as she diminished her haze eyes, giving her another shock about her.
" Whoa... What are you?" You are something else, ain't you? Jane asked like a complete novice as she rolled her eyes getting immersed in confusion.
" Okay, Annie sent me to you" she added.
" oh, jeez....about what now?? If she wants us to get back together, then hell no, I f*****g say no tell her that is my response" she rolled her eyes even more.
Jane has only two friends who were in the same high school as her, but now she had lost her parents and found herself in a bad situation she couldn't continue her studies anymore, so she broke tiles with her friends due to the anger she generates every day, just by thinking of her parents and the confusion she is in.
Lilian gave a quick smile, an infectious smile enough to calm the storm, "No she wants to help you, you know?" She said lying through her teeth again.
" Help me? How is that possible? With what?" she gruff as she waved hands in the air to bluff.
" Okay, let me break this down, so as for you to comprehend okay?" Lilian sighed.
Her job sure wasn't an easy one, recruiting members into a game seem like an easy task but a f*****g stressful job.
" Annie told me of the hell you are going through lately and your little brother, Joe"
" Whoa she even know my little brother Joe, should I be surprised?" she spoke inwardly to herself as she squinted her eyes.
Lilian coded her expression but smirked a little to ignore, as he moved to her main point.
"The tough times you've been going through ........." she stopped, not trying to remind her of her nightmare.
" Annie saw this game online, which says if you play and win you get a 5 billion naira, so she taught of you as a friend that this would be truly helpful for you when you join. Who knows you might win? She wants you to get into the game Jane" she calmed as she gave out the details step by step.
" 5 billion dollars?" Jane was startled as her eyes swirled all over the bar as if lost deep in thought. She was being calculated in her mind, thinking of this she would get when she wins that sum of money"
Yes, 5 billion dollars?" Lilian nodded.
"Then she wants me to join?" Jane grins.
" oh..mmm. I will give this a thorough thinking" she swung her head to a side, biting her fingers as she think thoroughly.
"Okay, I think I should give you some time to think about it, here is the card it is being anchored by WIC company, place a call when you are ready to join" Lilian reached out to her with the pink little card in her hands, inscribed in it was some numbers.
" Okay....." taking the card from her, she muttered.
Lilian left without exposing to her what the game is? and if there were some consequences or not?
Jane inserted the card into the back pocket of her trouser, after going through it.
A few minutes after Lillian left, Jane stepped out of the bar, heading to the orphanage she was searching for.
She walked past a signboard which was beside the next street, she passed without taking note of it earlier l.
" Peace Orphanage home," it says.
Jane knocked on the gate, as the gatekeeper came out to assist her, of what he could do for her.
She was given a gate pass and meant with the manager, which agreed on taking care of his brother here.
She went home, in that dilapidated house soon-to collapse.
" Hey Joe, I have something to tell you...." she tapped her little brother who fell asleep since he was lonely in the house.
He woke up, wiping his eyes to clear his vision.
"Jane?" he asked with his soft sweet voice.
" Yes it's me, I want to tell you that....." She stopped as she noticed tears were gathering up in her eyes, she doesn't want him to notice if there is was something wrong.
As he was quite a sharp boy, he noticed the tears she was trying to hide, "Hey sister what's wrong?" he dropped down from the crappie bed he slept on.
" It's nothing baby" she quickly wiped off the tears as they dropped down on her cheek, and rub his head smoothly.
"I want to tell you that I found a new home for you" she snapped rubbing his soft cheek.
" A new home? he sounded confused as his eyebrow curved into a coma shape.
"Yes Joe, you are going to an orphanage home, there, you will be fine, they will be able to take care of you properly and meet new friends" she pats his back as she notices he started crying already, he knew he would be alone this time for God knows how long? He was going to be away from his sister now.
What an uncomfortable world... This is what Amal wants, for them to suffer.
"Come on, don't cry" she pulled him to her chest as she hugged him.
" I want to make sure we are fine again, I will be back for you okay?" she spoke, tears streaming down her eyes.
" I don't want to go......" he cried even more.
"I don't want to be separated from you, sister please" his veins on his forehead began to show as cried.
" No, you can't be with me. You will be fine there Joe, Don't you trust me?" She said it smoothing his back.
" I promise to be back for you Joe, believe me" she pats his back as he jerks and his temperature rose.
" Joe, that's fine stop crying, I'm going to be back for you"
He finally listened he nodded.
" Good, now go back your bags" she instructed as he went into the room to he his things.
After Joe went in she began to cry secretly, she was more hurt than him, sending his only family away from him, which was wrenching.
Suddenly, she remembered Lilian... And thought of the card......
