CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR Something moved at the far end of the water. Shadows snaked back and forth, leaving a bubble trail. A powerful tail slapped against the water with each twist and turn, pushing the water against Clarence, sending him tumbling against the wall behind him. Voices, like a radio blaring from across the hall at Hillcrest muffled through a head cold, reached his ears. Only he couldn’t distinguish any words. Even in the water, chills ran up and down his body. The shadow swam closer. It wasn’t a snake or water creature. It was a woman. Someone else was in the pool. The blue and purple and green water highlighted her red-brown hair. It flowed and billowed, swirled about her face. Pale clothes fluttered around her body as she swam back and forth.
