21 The Hunt Begins April walked through all the rooms of Ivan’s apartment, but there were no clues. She wasn’t sure what she had expected—a note under a fridge magnet, a travel itinerary left on the nightstand? The only sign the two of them had ever been there was the H. G. Wells book in the room she had slept in for one night. She had tucked it under the pillow after leafing through the pages that night and it had been missed when Hakim and Ivan had packed up her things the next morning. Now it sat waiting for her on the little reading table between two cozy chairs she had never so much as sat in. She ran a hand over the leather cover but left it where it was.
