Inevitably, the man widened his beads in disbelief. How could Eloise be in front of this room? Did she fly here from their city? Why wasn’t there any news beforehand? “Hon?” Eloise uttered the word haltingly, fighting back the tears that were about to burst from her eyelids. The hope that Eloise had built up in her imagination was now gone and gone with just one blink. She had been... betrayed. Didn’t this scene prove everything? “Eloise....” “Hon?!” repeated Eloise, trying to put herself forward now, that she had to maintain her dignity. No, she couldn’t look pathetic. “Hon?! Hon?! You mean ‘honey’, Robert?! Huh?!” The woman in the mini dress who was now right next to Robert, seemed to pull her eyebrows up. Looking at Eloise and Robert in turn, she seemed to know what was going on. “She’s your girlfriend, huh?” Pointing at Eloise with no interest, he seemed unwilling to interfere. “You two can talk.” Talk? What did Eloise have to talk about?! The woman had already waltzed into the room, not at all intending to explain anything. Perhaps, this situation did not need to be explained by words. “You’re such an asshole, Robert!” Half exclaiming, Eloise tried hard not to look pathetic. She wasn’t the one at fault in this situation, but why was she the one who felt his guts shrinking by the second? “El, listen to me first!” Robert tried to reach Eloise’s arm. But the woman had already backed away faster, not wanting Robert’s touch to touch the surface of her skin. Swear to God, Eloise wished the earth would shake and drown her right now. Perhaps, even an explanation wouldn’t mean anything to her. After all, wasn’t everything obvious? Plus it wasn’t just her who wore less material clothing, Robert seemed to favor cut-off shorts above the knee with a T-shirt disheveled on his body. In all the time she had known Robert, Eloise had never once seen Robert in this state. What had they just done in there? What had happened between the two humans in a closed room? Had they perhaps... been making out with each other? Had Robert been following the training from the office well all this time? So, where was Jimmy? There were so many questions stuck on the tip of Eloise’s tongue. Questions that she couldn’t even say even if she wanted to, because Eloise knew she was no longer important to Robert. “There’s nothing I need to hear from you anymore, Robert,” Eloise said, stifling the pounding of her heart as it crumbled. “I swear to God, I never thought you would betray our relationship in the most heinous way possible! You slept with her, huh?!” More and more hurt, Eloise didn’t care even though her voice now began to rise and leave an echo in the hallway. Robert seemed too shocked by Eloise’s sudden presence to even prepare anything. Unfortunately, he was caught off guard and couldn’t avoid it. What else could he say, other than reversing all the accusations? “It’s all because you keep refusing what I ask, Eloise!” Robert raised his voice. The man’s jaw hardened, as if not accepting that he was the only guilty party in this situation. “You’re the one who’s too conservative for not wanting s*x before marriage. Everyone else is doing it and it’s fine!” Eloise squinted. Remembering the request that Robert had made to her several times, Eloise had never wanted to have a relationship that went beyond the rules before they were officially married. And she didn’t think it would make Robert look elsewhere, because the Robert Eloise knew, was a very reliable man. But look at now, how he's now pointing the finger of blame at Eloise’s shoulders. Shaking his head weakly, Eloise felt sorry for herself. “Damn it, Robert!” The woman cursed through chattering teeth. “I was just thinking about granting you everything, and that’s why I flew all the way here. I took a leave of absence and prepared everything with my heart pounding, but you cheated and behold you’ve replaced me with an aunty!” Robert widened his bead. He was breathing hard, wondering what the right words to say would be. But then, Eloise’s laughter came first. “But thank goodness I came at the right time,” the woman said. Hissing softly, Eloise managed to make her look like a strong woman. “Thank goodness I didn’t give the most important thing to you. At least I can give it to someone who isn’t an asshole like you! Listen, Robert. For the rest of your life, you won’t have me! The thing you want most from this relationship, I’ll give it to someone else. Do you hear me?! After all, you chose an auntie!” Robert gritted his teeth even more. Eloise was already filled with rage that was exploding and erupting inside her chest, and she didn’t care anymore. “Rachel is no auntie, Eloise!” the man retorted with an audible hiss. “At least she takes care of me and supports me to buy anything! She’s not conservative like you, she’s not sanctimonious like you.” Ah, it turns out Robert wasn’t just a jerk. Eloise had just found out how Robert, who she had thought was perfect, was just a jerk and a jerk. Where had she been that she didn’t see the man’s true self? Eloise was almost speechless. Now he knew there was no point in staying, as this situation would only add to the pain and hurt inside. “We’re finished here,” Eloise declared the new status of their relationship. “For everything that ever existed between us, Robert, I’ll pretend it never happened. You no longer have anything to do with me, and I won’t consider you to exist on this earth.” Robert had no idea Eloise would make such a quick decision. Didn’t she adore him the entire time they were in love? Couldn’t he get one more chance? “Eloise, but-“ “There’s no chance for him who betrays, you know that, right, Robert?” Robert had not yet expressed his intentions, but Eloise had already interrupted him. “You and I no longer have anything.” Everything was over. Eloise forced his legs to rise and stepped from there, from the place where he had been frozen and had felt ashamed for all the circumstances. How the loyalty she had upheld all this time for their relationship, turned out to mean nothing to Robert. He didn’t consider her special. Not even a little, when then Eloise thought how stupid she had been who often built beautiful dreams with a man named Robert Scott. Now everything was gone, just in the blink of an eye. Creating the distance that began to stretch between her and Robert, there was a small wish in Eloise’s heart for Robert to at least keep her away. Something that fulfills her ego, so that she doesn’t end up so miserable. The faint sound of Robert’s voice could still be heard in Eloise’s ears, but she no longer looked back. Until then, the sound of the door closing made Eloise’s heart almost burst again, because she had not even reached the elevator, but Robert had already returned to the aunty woman. Unable to stop himself, Eloise let the tears that had almost seeped out earlier, now actually fall and soak his cheeks. Unable to support herself, Eloise crouched down with her head bowed down. Weak. “Damn it,” she cursed between sobs that made her shoulders shake violently. There was an overwhelming sense of hurt that Eloise was feeling right now, and she didn’t know where to go after everything went wrong like this. In her mind, she should be with Robert right now. Making out with each other, touching each other’s skin, feeling each other fly into the sky. But everything turned out to be wishful thinking that disappeared in the blink of an eye. “Damn it, Robert,” Eloise’s lips were still mumbling the man’s name, the name she had imagined and dreamed would be next to her in the wedding book. “Ah, asshole! Now what do I do?” Punching the carpet that served as the floor mat in the corridor, Eloise did not punch with power. There was no way she had any energy left when everything that had just happened had drained all her energy. Where would she go after this? Hell, she couldn’t go far from here, because she had to stay at least one night. Maybe, she could move up the date of her return to her city. But didn’t she need a bed for herself? Wiping the tears from her eyes, Eloise encouraged herself. “Get up, Eloise!” she said, not wanting to appear weak just because of a man. “If Robert can be that mean to you, then prove that you’re not a conservative woman! You’re not someone who is... afraid of such a relationship.” Eloise got up. Forcing her legs back upright, Eloise took a breath and let it out long. I don’t know what demon possessed her, but she looked stronger than she had looked just a few twelve minutes ago. Dragging her suitcase towards the elevator, Eloise pressed the button to head downstairs. Perhaps, she needed to sit in peace for a moment. Perhaps, she should find a place to drink that would heal her heart, and most importantly, that she no longer belonged there. Maybe a few glasses of wine, would soothe her battered heart.
