Chapter FifteenIt was a couple of weeks before I saw Mr Carmichael again. I watched our drive in the hope, if not the expectation, of seeing him riding up on Chetak, but experienced only disappointment. Nobody arrived except visitors for mother and the occasional businessman to see Father. Strangely, although I disliked Mr Carmichael, I also looked forward to his company. I did not understand those contrasting emotions. I knew only that they confused me. All my efforts at fathoming myself led to one stark conclusion. I wanted Mr Carmichael's presence because I want him to help Matthew. There was no other reason, and with that, I had to be satisfied.
