The threat in front of me was real. The fabled council was now on my doorstep, and I had nowhere to run. There wasn't even time to think.
With my hands at the bottom of the riverbed, I felt the sensation of my power at my fingertips. Hurling a stone in the man's direction, I also sent a wave of shadow. I worked hastily to stand as I realized I hadn't been able to conjure the vines like before.
The figure stood undisturbed, an unseen force shielding him. A chuckle. "Pitiful. What an incompetent choice in a host. You have no comprehension of how to wield your abilities."
My eyes frantically scanned for an escape, the man now snickering at my efforts. Snapping his fingers an enchanted noose came around me, rendering my body incapable of motion.
A new figure stepped from the shadows, cloaked. "Are you done playing with the girl, Lucius? I didn't keep her for your toy. You know the task at hand."
That voice. Lilith?
The man waved his hand and I was hauled in front of him. His face was cloaked but his purple eyes scorched my soul. "The rest of the organization has already been notified that we have her. The chamber of waking will suffice as the girls dwelling."
I shook my head frantically, my mouth unable to move. My fingers twitched in an attempt to make vines, the ground underneath me trembling.
The woman shook her finger. "Tsk Tsk. That's no way to behave."
A flash of light overwhelmed my eyes, rendering me unconscious.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Silence. That was the first thing I noticed. I couldn't even hear the sound of my own breathing. Opening my eyes I was in the water, floating inside of a cylindrical container. A sophisticated jumpsuit was on me, with what felt like cords attached to my back.
A breathing mask was on my mouth, noticing it when I reached to feel my face. My hair curled around me, back to its original black hue.
Now taking a moment to collect my surroundings I could see a few computers, other than that the room seemed vacant. Squinting, the faint image of a brunette could be seen at one of the computers.
The computer displayed data on the right and an image of a body's vitals to the left. Mine?
Subtle beeping was now heard coming from it with a red blinking light. The woman turned in her chair towards me, to which I gave a muffled huff of alarm. Bubbles appeared around the mouthpiece and floated up.
The girl staring back at me couldn't have been but 20, her hazel eyes sparkling in curiosity.
She pressed a button on the keyboard, instantaneously sending a wave of sleep to my body.
Looking past her, I saw Lilith. What was she doing here? I placed my hand on the glass, tapping it in my silent plea to her. She narrowed her eyes as she turned and walked away.
No. This isn't how it's supposed to be.
With one last look at the computer screen, only a few words were clear.
Project Amaryllis: Active
My eyes closed and I realized. The council had just what they wanted. They didn't want to destroy the flower. It was the weapon of destruction they sought so long for. The centuries of planning had now paid off.
I was now the weapon that would destroy the world.
