WHEN FRIENDSHIP FADES EP 3

349 Words
*Episode 3: Healing Without Closure* Weeks passed. Abike no longer waited for a response. She had deleted the chats, archived the memories, but the hurt still lingered like a scar that didn’t want to fade completely. She wasn’t angry anymore—just disappointed. Glory, on the other hand, seemed to be glowing with her new circle of friends. She laughed louder in the hallways, posted more online, and never looked Abike’s way. But Abike noticed something—her laughter wasn’t the same. It was loud, yes, but not real. Not the kind of laughter they used to share. One afternoon, Mufidat and Abike sat under a tree after school. Mufidat looked at her and said softly, “Have you really healed?” Abike smiled faintly. “I’m trying. I miss what we had. But I don’t miss the way she made me feel at the end.” Then something unexpected happened. A classmate passed by and dropped a folded note beside Abike. “Glory said I should give you this.” Her heart raced. She hesitated before opening it. The handwriting was familiar. It read:*“I don’t know how we got here. Maybe I let pride win. Maybe I listened to the wrong people. I thought you replaced me, and I got scared… So I struck first. I’m not asking for us to go back. I just wanted you to know I regret how I treated you. I miss you… even if I don’t deserve to.”* Abike stared at the note for a long time. Mufidat watched her. “Are you going to reply?” Abike folded the note carefully. “No. Some things are better left unsaid. She made her choice. I made peace.” That night, Abike wrote in her journal: *“Forgiveness isn’t always about reconnecting. Sometimes it’s about letting go and wishing them well—from a distance.”* The bond they once shared was broken, but Abike found something even stronger—her own voice, her peace, and the strength to move forward without looking back. To be continued…
