Abike had just returned from an early evening walk with Mufidat, her heart lighter than it had been in months. As they sat on the porch, sipping cold drinks and laughing over something silly, her phone buzzed.
*It was a message. From Glory.*
*"Hey Abike. I know it’s been a while. I don’t even know if you’ll reply, but I’ve been thinking a lot about everything… about us. And I’m sorry. I really am."*
Abike stared at the message. Her heart didn’t race. Her palms weren’t sweaty. Instead, she was calm — just surprised.
She showed Mufidat the message.
Mufidat didn’t say anything at first. Then she looked at her and said, “You don’t have to answer now. Or at all. Only do what feels right.”
Later that night, Abike sat with her journal again and wrote:
*"Forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconnection. Sometimes, it’s just choosing peace over pain. And maybe Glory has grown, but I’ve grown too — in another direction."*
She replied the next morning.
*"Thank you for your message. I wish you well. That’s all I can say for now."*
No anger. No bitterness.
Just closure.That week, Abike and Mufidat became even closer. They planned a weekend trip, shared playlists, made late-night noodles, and helped each other study. The bond was real — not based on years, but on depth, respect, and honesty.
Mufidat told Abike one night, “Some friendships come early and leave early. But the right ones? They arrive when your heart is finally ready.”
Abike smiled. “And I’m glad mine arrived with you.”
