Dreaming

Chapter 8 Val and I eat in silence. The food is so good, we finished the nachos in no time at all. Soon the cast iron pan is wiped clean. I smile and giggle when I look over at Val and see that is has a blob of sour cream on the tip of his nose. “What has you giggling like that?” He asks me with a soft smile. “You have sour cream on the tip of your nose,” I say as I reach across with a napkin to clean it off for him. “Thank you,” he says as he stands and places a $100 dollar bill on the table. “It’s not going to cost that much. I always leave a $100 for Ma, she never asks for help even when she needs it. So I always leave her some extra in hopes that I can help her with the things she will not ask for, I come here a few times a week for just that reason. It helps that the food is so good.” Val explains with a smile as we walk out of the restaurant. Maybe he isn’t as bad as people say he is. Or maybe he is just evil towards the wolves. I shake my head trying to clear away all of the what if’s that I have going on. Too many options for the little that I know about him. “Do you need anything else while we are in town before heading back to the palace?” Val asks me. “No I don’t think so, I found shower things in the bathroom this morning and I am pretty sure I have more than enough clothes now as well as shoes. I’ve never had much, so I have no idea what else I could want.” I say looking at him. “Well you came with nothing and I didn’t find a phone in your room so I am assuming you didn’t have one before, so I am glad I already got that for you. So why don’t you think about the things you like to do or things that you would like to try doing. Think of things you couldn’t do in your old pack with your parents.” Val says as he reaches down to grab my hand as we walk down the sidewalk towards the palace. I look at all the shops as we go trying to think of anything that I might want. When I spot an art store. I pick up my pace and am pulling Val along with me. “No need to rush, what is it.” He asks once I have stopped in front of the shop. “I loved art class, and my teacher had gotten me a few art sets over the years that I had to keep hidden from my parents. Could I get a few supplies?” I ask him making sure to watch his facial expressions. I watch his eyes soften as he looks down at me. “If you want art supplies we can get you anything that you would like. You may want to talk to the owner in here, she offers art classes for various types of artwork. I tried pottery once, it was not a good outcome.” He says with a smile as he opens the door. “Good afternoon Prince and his mysterious friend. What can I help you with?” A young red head asks as she looks between Val and myself. “Hello Miss Jessica. This is Chloe, she is my mate. I just found her yesterday and so we are in town doing some shopping for the things that she needs. She says she loved art class and used to have some art supplies. So she would like to get some new ones.” Val explains as he lets go of my hand. “Very good. Do you have a specific type of artwork you like to create?” Jessica asks me. “Not really, I have done a lot of painting, but that is about it. Val mentioned that you have classes, do you have a schedule for what is offered?” I ask her as I look at the floor and fidget with my fingers. “Follow me,” she says as she walks over to the far left side of the store. “All of the canvases and paint supplies are here. Grab anything that you would like. I will go and find you a class schedule so that you can look it over and then decide what you would like to take. When you know what you want to take, just give me a call or text me, my number is on the schedule.” Jessica says with a smile as she walks over to the office door. I turn and look at the very long isle of paint supplies. I have never seen so much paint in one spot before. I walk along and grab a couple of paint colors I really like, they seem to be blues and purples with a few pink. My hands start to get full and before I can say anything Val is walking back over to me with a cart. “Thank you, I just need to grab some brushes and a few canvases.” I say as I turn back to the isle. I grab a few different style brushes and a few different sized canvases. I smile at Jessica as we walk up to the front desk. “Did you find all that you were looking for?” She asks me with a smile. “I did. Thank you so much.” I say reaching for Val’s card so that I can pay. “The class schedule is one of the bags. Don’t be afraid to reach out to me if you have any questions about the classes I offer.” Jessica says with a smile as she hands us the bags. Val and I walk out of the store and I am pretty sure I must be dreaming, because I have never in my life had such an amazing day. I really need to speak to Val and clear up some things that I said about him that may not be true. I do not see how any person labeled as a monster would do anything that he has done for me today.
