Chapter Twelve: Happily Never After

  The three of us Eric, Brelear, and I finally get to the edge of the forest. We must wait until nightfall before we can continue because of Brelear and my condition.   He has done well in the week since I turned him. He is slowly learning to control his thirst for blood. I have taught him how to control his speed and strength. I can tell when we spar that I am a lot stronger and faster than he is, but he is still faster and stronger than Eric.   I know I am on the right path. My determination is strong and focused. I will do as Daren asked. I will find all the other Princesses and reunite them with their Princes.   Together we will destroy that coven of witch hags.   When the sun sets we can leave the forest. It looks as if we have at least another day's journey ahead of us before getting to the castle gates.   We get far that night, but end up stopping as the sun begins to show signs of rising. We find a small cottage about half a day’s ride away from town.   Inside lives a little old man, and as much as I don't want to, I need to feed. I drink as much as I can without killing him, then force him to forget.   Eric grabs one of the chickens and makes supper for him and the old man. First letting Brelear drain it dry to quench his thirst.   The day passes by slowly. It feels like forever. When the sun sets we finally leave. The old man giving us a pleasant smile and a wave goodbye.   We ride to the town that sits in front of the castle. It's been a long journey; I am tired and hungry. I go into the nearest tavern and find a few drunken fools and convince them to come outside with me.   The joys of hypnosis. Aside from the blood l**t, I was starting to enjoy this curse a bit. I fed until I was semi-satisfied.      Eric escorted me to Brena's castle. We went in and headed into the throne room where she was waiting for us.   I smiled when I saw her. She looked almost like she used to. She has the same long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. I laughed as all my feelings and memories of being friends returned to me.   She stood up and smiled at us. I did a quick run to her and wrapped my arms around her before she could speak. We both scream at the same time as we feel the burning sensation all over our bodies.   I let her go and she looks at me with tears in her eyes...   “On no Brena.” I say as the tears fall from my eyes...
