The Warning

1457 Words
I’m so stuffed since I have finished everything I ordered earlier. That noodle dish is very unique and delicious. It’s different from what I usually eat during my trips. Northern Samar looks promising already. I have to rest for a while inside the restaurant before heading out again. I’m not planning to get a room here. I have a different place to go later. Good thing they have a lounge where I can have more coffee.  I unpacked my laptop and prepared to start writing something. I usually use my smartphone to take notes from my observation. But since I have a table and a comfy chair, I decided to start writing my first chapter. It’s a rough draft of my story. I will have to enhance it and do some editing for the final manuscript. My editor is always complaining that she feels useless whenever I submit my manuscript.  I hate other people editing my story; that’s why I’m making sure that everything is perfect before I hand it down. I don’t like too much editing since it can change the feeling of the novel.  It’s nice to sit down and write my story while I’m in the location where my story happens. I can describe how it feels to be around here. People are friendly and it’s way different from where I came from. Although some of the locals seem to look at me intensely as if they are trying to figure out who I really am. Maybe living on an island far from the capital city can really make you feel intrigued about the people who visit their place. I reached for my necklace, which happens to have a pendant, which is the pentagram.  Maybe they are concerned about this. Some people thought that it’s the sign of the devil in some places who are not aware of the real meaning of the symbol. Whatever! It’s my protection and if I have to face any paranormal entities or creatures from the underworld. It will protect me from getting possessed or harmed. That's according to the series I have been binge-watching for a long time now. Hopefully, they are right.  It's called Supernatural, where two brothers hunt demons and other entities to protect humans from another realm.     "Excuse me, ma'am, would you like to have a coffee refill?" the waiter asked.     I almost jumped from my chair. I often get lost with my thoughts and forget that I have other people around me.     "Sure. Thanks!" I replied to the waiter, and he gladly put more coffee into my cup.     "Hey, have you been to Biringan City?" I finally remembered to ask that question. I need to know more about that place before I go.     The waiter looks surprised and scared at the same time. He looked around him if there were other customers nearby.      Nothing. I'm the only customer around here, maybe because it's still early.     "How do you know about that place?" he asked.     "Well, I researched about it, and they said that it's also called the invisible city," I said casually.     The waiter did the sign of the cross as if praying. He looks terrified about what I just told him.      "Ma'am, if I were you, I will never set foot there. You can stay here instead. There are a lot of nice places to visit around here anyway. But whatever you do, don't go to Biringan!" he said in a warning tone.     "Well, I'm not the usual tourist. You see, I'm an author, and I came here to write my story. According to my research, Biringan City is mysterious. I would like to see it for myself." I said.     "When you did your research, did you also learn that it's the city of aswangs?" the waiter asked.     "Yeah, I think I've read about that. But you dont believe that, right? It's just folklore and a story to scare kids to get out at night." I confidently said to him.     "You don't want to mess up between the story and reality, Miss. You're in Samar Island now. Everything is possible around here." he said.     "Well, I hope I can find that out myself. Do you know how to get there?" I asked.     "There's no public vehicle or anyone will bring you there. Plus, you cannot go without being invited by Corazon. She's the lead fairy in that place, according to the tales. You cannot even get there on foot. It's an invisible city, and it's not even on the map" he seems to realize that fact, and his worries are gone.     "I see. Okay, I think I better ask other locals around. Thanks for the information." I smiled at him.     The waiter smiled back and got back to the kitchen. I didn't tell him about my invitation. I don't want to see his scared reaction again. Maybe I'm fortunate to get invited. So I'm like a VIP since even locals can't even go there.      I get back to my laptop and search about Biringan City again. I want to learn more about what to expect before I go there tonight.     Then I saw the article about the mysterious place.                      The Invisible City   "With all the mysterious cities all over the world like Atlantis, El Dorado, Agartha, and many others. It is not surprising to have an additional invisible town that seems to be mythical. Although the other cities may stay as a myth forever, the Biringan City in the Philippines can be the real deal.     Biringan City is said to be located in Samar in the Philippines. Some locals said that it is located between the towns of Gandara, Tarangnan, and Pagsanjan. However, this city is invisible to the naked eye since it is not your usual city where you can just come and go as you please.     With all the mysterious cities worldwide like Atlantis, El Dorado, Agartha, and many others. Then try to act as if you are a lost traveler. Maybe the engkantos will notice you and take an interest in bringing you to their mythical city. Since most of the time, truck drivers are being abducted who happen to be traveling around the area.     It was also mentioned that some businessmen and fishermen are being lured to the city by a lovely fairy, which is called "diwata" locally. They will be put in a trance to follow the diwata until they reach Biringan City. It's similar to sirens, but the diwata don't need to sing anymore since her looks alone are already mesmerizing enough for any men to follow her wherever she goes.     Some people also said that there are furniture, building materials, and even a car delivery, all addressed in Biringan City. It's all paid in full, so the delivery should be done. They were told to come around 7 PM. But for some who don't want to do the night delivery, good luck in finding the place. The city will only show up at night since it's an enchanted place.                        Who Lives There   Based on the locals, many creatures live in Biringan City. These are the Encanto, diwata, and even aswang. They are known to have different characteristics, like the average human being. But they look like ordinary humans except for the philtrum in their upper lip that is not showing up. They also have a black diet, which means that the food they eat is black. If you eat this black thing, you can never return to the real world anymore.     It's also mentioned that these creatures eat humans who are the aswang. They will eat your gut, heart, and liver. They also feed on fetuses inside the mother's womb. However, these creatures may live in another part of Biringan City. The locals are often having encounters with them as they lose their livestock or, worst, their kids at night when they are active.     Some of the unexplained death was also the doings of these engkantos. Another tale is that if someone from Biringan City got attracted to you, they would take you as their bride or groom. Your lifeless body will be left to make it appear as if you're already dead. But in reality, it is just a banana tree log where they put a spell on it, so your family will think that you died and no longer look for you."
