Adrian moved Elena to a safer apartment temporarily.
She protested.
“I don't need a bodyguard.”
“I know.”
“Then why is there a man outside?”
“Because I need peace of mind.”
She crossed her arms.
“You're impossible.”
“You've said that before.”
“And I'll keep saying it.”
He smiled.
She tried to stay angry.
She failed.
Later that evening, they sat together on the balcony.
The city stretched before them.
Elena rested her head on Adrian's shoulder.
“Do you ever regret meeting me?”
He looked at her.
“Never.”
“Not even once?”
“Not even for a second.”
She smiled.
“Even though your life became complicated?”
“My life was complicated before you.”
“Now it's worse.”
“Maybe.”
She laughed.
Adrian took her hand.
“But it's also better.”
She looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because I finally have someone worth fighting for.”
Elena's eyes filled with tears.
“You make everything sound so serious.”
“I am serious.”
He turned toward her.
“I love you.”
She froze.
The words she had secretly wanted to hear finally came.
“You…”
He smiled.
“I love you, Elena.”
She looked down, trying to hide her tears.
Then she looked back at him.
“I love you too.”
Adrian pulled her into his arms.
They stayed together beneath the quiet night sky.
But inside Adrian's phone was an unread message.
From his father.
Tomorrow, we end this.
Adrian didn't see it.
Not yet.
He was too busy holding the woman he loved.
And somewhere beyond the city lights, someone was already preparing to tear them apart.
Their love had survived the first storm.
But the greatest storm was still coming.
