Chapter Thirty-Four The Basement “When it comes to a screen, size always matters.”—The voice from the back Hilda smiled as several footmen entered grunting. They were carrying what anyone on Earth would describe as the biggest, slimmest TV screen ever. They balanced it against a wall. “Your seaside, ma’am,” said the head footman. He clicked his heels to attention, the other footmen followed as Cleaner One and Two entered. They surveyed the screen with disapproval. Cleaner One tapped a corner and tutted. “Does it have hologram facilities?” “Yes.” “In the basement?” “Naturally, that is the whole point . . .” Cleaner One whistled through her teeth. “You sure?” “It’s an incentive when we need extra energy,” said Hilda.
