It was supposed to be a normal afternoon at Zephyra’s house, filled with laughter and the scent of freshly brewed tea. But normal shattered when Mia, Zephyra's older sister, stumbled upon a truth too heavy to carry.
Their father was in the shower, his phone vibrating loudly on the countertop. Mia's curiosity got the best of her as she glanced at the screen. The preview of the message made her heart skip. She hesitated, then unlocked the phone with trembling hands.
Her breath caught in her throat as she read the message:
"That was the best night with you, babe. Can you come over tonight?"
Mia’s hands shook violently, and in her panic, she accidentally deleted the message. She stood frozen, her heart pounding like a drum in her chest. What had she just discovered? Was it real?
For days, Mia lived in torment. The secret gnawed at her, making her distant and uneasy. Zephyra noticed the change but couldn't get Mia to open up. The weight was unbearable. Finally, Mia broke down one evening, tears streaming down her face.
"I need to tell you something, Mom," Mia whispered, her voice shaking.
Their mother, seated at the kitchen table, looked up with concern. "What's wrong, sweetheart?"
Mia took a deep breath, her voice cracking as she confessed. "Dad… I think he’s seeing someone else."
Silence hung heavy in the room. Their mother’s face turned pale. "What are you saying?"
"I saw a message... from a woman. It was... intimate." Mia’s voice broke again. "I didn’t know what to do. I’m sorry."
Their mother sat in stunned silence, her mind racing. Flashes of cold, distant moments from her husband came flooding back—missed dinners, lifeless conversations, and unexplained absences.
The next day, when her husband said he was stepping out for a meeting, their mother made a decision. She followed him.
Her heart pounded as she tailed his car to an upscale café. Through the large window, she saw him seated with a woman, their heads close, laughter shared like a cruel mockery of the life they had built together.
Tears stung her eyes, but she steeled herself. The truth was undeniable.
Back at home, Zephyra sensed the storm brewing. Her mother’s red-rimmed eyes and tense demeanor spoke volumes. Though Zephyra didn’t know the full extent yet, she knew one thing—her world was about to change.
And so was her bond with Thorian.
