Monster Characteristics

Dimitri looked at the shining pebble that formed before him. It emanated a great amount of spirituality affirming it authentic nature. It glowed with an alluring charm. In such a world monster characteristics were considered rare and were valued highly. They ranged from rank 1 to rank 9 characteristics. It it contained power ‘inquisitors’ could rap into. Awakening as an inquisitor required one to tap into their talents. Basically one had to have their latent energy tapped into by a larger energy source so as to open their meridians and control their energy. Their energies could signify their talents and the paths they would take. There were three paths that could be brought up based on your energy; •Emerald green~Path of the Knights •Scarlet or Blood Red~Path of the Mage •Ember or tinges of Yellow~Path of Divinity According to the paths one could potentially choose certain abilities by absorbing monster characteristics and taking in portions. ••• Currently Dimitri didn’t know what to do. Characteristics weren’t something to be played with. If one consumed the wrong characteristics chances of losing control and turning to a monster were high. Most unqualified mortals would take a shot at absorbing characteristics and in the end they would end up eventually turning to creatures resembling the corpse of the monsters. Dimitri didn’t awaken previously but he was prepared to do so after his 16th birthday but fate disregarded him. Awakening could be done via a controlled environment or manually. In a controlled setting, an awakened being would provide assistance to the examined and direct his or her energy flow so as to open up their meridians and replicate the same feeling soon after their bodies would actively repel foreign energies and finally form its own in the process. The energy would be tested via “mana chromatic paper” which would change colors according to the energy signature of the user. This was mainly used by academies. Manually, one had to take in materials with high spirituality, ingest them and replicate its energy flow as its dispelled. Casualties could occur if one wasn’t careful enough. For example one could have all their meridians damaged due to misplaced energy flow or they could simply explode due to taking in an insane amount of energy. Fatigue and misguided energy flow accompanied the use of manual awakening. Though dangerous in some situations it was worth it, as such Dimitri thought of the possibility of awakening manually. He slowly picked up the shining pebble. Fear gripped his heart. The possibility of power was great but the costs to cumbersome. A lump formed in his throat as the pebble glimmered in the darkness. “ Let’s give it a shot, what’s the worst that could happen?” His mouth agape he slowly placed the orb in his tongue. It melted slowly with a salty after taste similar to that of blood. Dimitri felt his mind drift slowly as peace accompanied his heart. His head was clear till like a raging storm pain filled his ever pore. Steam emanated from his sweat glands. As he felt his body filled with vigor and energy. Maybe to much of it. His bones cracked as his muscles began tearing apart one by one. His iris dilated as his heart paced. Energy flowed ripping apart his every being. A warm liquid steadily flowed from his nose. An iron like taste filled his mouth. His body was crumbling and he had no way of stopping it. Energy gushed out of every pang in his body. His brain was overloaded with sensory information. Energy converged and diverged in and illusory manner. A raging torrent became a sea wave till the tides were no more. All the energy had been dispelled all that was left was for Dimitri to replicate the same feeling. In pain he caused a stir in his spirituality. Like a river he let it flow. From his muscles to his pore and to some of his broken bones he let it flow. It came to an end and with it serenity as his spirituality flowed once more. Rank Nine~Divinity, Dimitri glanced at his energy as it flowed within him. It was ember with tinges of yellow. He was truly the son of a “divine Inquisitor”. He glanced at his mangled body and laughed hysterically. “That’s what I get for doing it manually.” He finally put to the test the abilities gained from the characteristic. As soon as he did so his iris grew dark as he leaned back revealing an agonizing expression. His vision went dark. Light seeped in the darkness and recreated a scene. A man stood with his back straight a he shot a glance at the man before him. The began conversing inaudibly as the man looked at his figure up high. Finally the two figures became audible as he the gaunt figure sat down on one of his well furnished couches and coldly muttered, “...try it then.” The figure besides him with his back straightened whispered~Daze~ his eyes darkened then finally his iris turned milky as he gazed on to the burly man besides him. The man seemed to have lost focus for a few seconds till he finally spoke, “Nice!” “That’s the main ability other than that there is ~Overheal~ and ~Owls Eye~ both are practically useless in a real battle with being like the Kelsier Brothers.” He said this disappointedly. Seconds later the dream shattered as he woke up still sprawling on the floor. “Three abilities, huh” Silently Dimitri activated ~Overheal~He felt his muscles tingling slightly in agitation as pain resurfaced within him. His bones reattached themselves as his muscles strung themselves together. Pain was washed over with relief as the healing process proved true. His muscles felt stronger and more agile his body was a bit lighter than before. He felt relieved. Till the consequences hit him. He felt his movements grow slow as his mind failed to formulate simple things. His nimble body felt heavy. Moving was suddenly taxing his thoughts were muddled. After 2 minutes it finally stopped. Dimitri thought about it and took the initiative to come up with the general idea of his new ability. First of all it could fully heal you of all your injuries but your brain is fatigued to a point that one becomes a vegetable for 2 minutes straight. Second the energy consumption is high. Third, it can only be used once a month, if used further as its name suggests one would lose their thoughts and become a vegetable plus the added bonus of being an Overly healed blob of flesh. Secondly was the ~Owls Eye~ It allowed its user to see in the dark. Thirdly was the ~Gaze of Stupor~ it allowed its user to temporarily stun its enemies by looking them in the eye. Its problem lied in the fact that while using said ability one would constantly hear ravings of the unknown. Satisfied Dimitri clenched his fist as he lowered his hip prepared for a punch. His body swayed as a cracking sound was produced as an after effect. His lips curled up as he prepared to leave. He then remembered what the status screens those in the lightened world would say about him; •Dimitri.D.Grey •Rank ; 9 {apprentice} •Affinity ; Divine Pathway •Skills; -Over-heal -Owls eye -Gaze of Stupor {awe} Satisfied he left the cave and it’s rotting inhabitants.
