The Blood oath

775 Words
The stone doors groaned. CRACK! A jagged line split them from top to bottom as crimson energy seeped through the ancient runes. The temple trembled. Dust rained from the ceiling. Nita instinctively grabbed Adrian’s hand. “What’s happening?” Adrian’s eyes remained fixed on the entrance. “Kael is feeding the barrier with blood magic.” “Can he really break in?” Adrian hesitated. “Blood magic always demands a sacrifice.” Outside, Kael stood before the temple, his palms sliced open. Blood flowed onto the ancient symbols carved into the ground. The earth drank every drop. One by one, the glowing runes surrounding the temple began to fade. Behind him, his Beta lowered his head. “My Alpha… if you continue, the curse will consume you.” Kael smiled. “I’ll gladly lose my life…” “…if it means possessing the Last Luna.” ⸻ Inside the temple, Nita’s mother’s spirit grew weaker. Her glowing form flickered like a dying flame. “Nita…” “You don’t have much time.” Nita swallowed hard. “What do I have to do?” The spirit pointed toward the center of the temple. A circular platform slowly rose from the floor. On it rested a magnificent sword forged from silver crystal. Its blade shimmered beneath the moonlight pouring through the cracked ceiling. Adrian’s eyes widened. “The Moonfang Sword…” “I thought it was only a legend.” Her mother nodded. “It can only be wielded by the true heir of the Moon Goddess.” Nita stared at the weapon. “I’ve never even held a sword.” “You don’t need to.” “The sword will choose its owner.” ⸻ Another deafening explosion shook the temple. The stone doors burst inward. A cloud of dust filled the chamber. From the smoke emerged Kael. His clothes were stained with blood. His gray eyes had turned crimson. Behind him marched dozens of armed wolves. The temple’s guardians lay defeated outside. Kael smiled as his gaze settled on Nita. “There you are.” Adrian stepped in front of her. “You’ll have to kill me first.” Kael laughed. “I was planning to.” Without warning— He attacked. Their fists collided with enough force to c***k the marble floor. Adrian staggered backward. Kael was stronger than before. Blood magic had transformed him. The two Alphas exchanged brutal blows. The temple echoed with the sounds of snarls, crashing stone, and splintering pillars. Nita wanted to help… But she froze. She had never seen such terrifying power. Kael suddenly grabbed Adrian by the throat and slammed him into a pillar. The stone shattered. Adrian fell to one knee, coughing blood. Kael raised his claws. “This ends now.” “NO!” Nita screamed. She ran forward. The silver pendant around her neck blazed with light. The Moonfang Sword rose from its pedestal. It flew through the air. Straight into Nita’s outstretched hand. The moment her fingers wrapped around the hilt— A wave of silver energy exploded through the temple. Every torch burst into brilliant white flames. The wolves cried out and shielded their eyes. Even Kael stepped back. The sword glowed brighter and brighter until ancient words appeared along its blade. A voice echoed through the chamber. Not from the temple. Not from the sword. But from the heavens themselves. “By blood… by courage… by destiny…” “The Last Luna has awakened.” A silver mark appeared on the back of Nita’s hand, matching the crescent-shaped symbol on her pendant. She felt warmth spread through her body. Fear faded. In its place came a calm strength she had never known. Kael stared at her in disbelief. “No…” “It wasn’t supposed to happen yet.” Nita lifted the glowing sword. Her voice, though steady, carried across the temple. “You took my family.” “You destroyed my home.” “You murdered the woman who raised me.” Her eyes locked onto Kael’s. “I’m done running.” Kael’s lips slowly curled into a smile. “Good.” He extended his claws. “I’ve waited twenty-three years…” “…to kill the Last Luna.” The two of them charged toward each other. Their blades and claws were only inches apart— When a deafening wolf howl echoed through the temple. Not one. Not ten. Hundreds. Every werewolf in Blackthorn Forest had heard the Moon Goddess’s proclamation. And every pack was now marching toward the temple. Because the awakening of the Last Luna meant only one thing. A war for the throne had begun.
