The Alpha Secret

The wolves closed in. One by one, they emerged from the shadows, their glowing eyes fixed on Nita. Their low growls echoed through the silent forest, making the ground beneath her feet feel unsteady. Nita stumbled backward. “W-What do they want from me?” The mysterious man stepped in front of her, shielding her with his body. “They’re under orders.” “Orders from who?” Before he could answer, a deep voice echoed through the clearing. “Move aside, Adrian.” The wolves parted. A gigantic silver wolf stepped forward. His fur gleamed beneath the moonlight, and a long scar ran across one eye. Moments later, the beast transformed into a man. He was tall, muscular, and dressed in a dark coat. His cold gray eyes settled on Nita. “So…” he said with a cruel smile. “The prophecy is true.” Nita frowned. “What prophecy?” The stranger ignored her. Instead, he looked at Adrian. “You’ve hidden her for twenty-three years.” Adrian’s jaw tightened. “I wasn’t hiding her.” “You lied to your pack.” “I protected an innocent woman.” The man’s smile disappeared. “There are no innocent humans.” Nita’s heart pounded. “What is he talking about?” Adrian didn’t answer. Instead, he whispered, “Stay behind me.” The silver-eyed man laughed. “You still haven’t told her the truth?” Nita looked from one man to the other. “What truth?” Silence. Then Adrian finally spoke. “My name is Adrian Blackwood.” “I know.” “I’m the Alpha of the Blackthorn Pack.” Nita blinked. “The… Alpha?” “Yes.” Her breath caught. “And every werewolf in this forest is supposed to obey me.” She looked around. “If you’re their Alpha… why are they threatening us?” The silver-eyed man answered instead. “Because he betrayed us.” Adrian’s fists clenched. “I chose mercy.” “You chose your mate over your pack.” Nita stared at Adrian. “Mate?” He closed his eyes for a brief moment. “When I found you years ago, the Moon Goddess marked you as my fated mate.” Nita’s world tilted. “No…” “I wanted you to live a normal life.” “So you watched me?” “Every full moon.” “You were outside my window.” “Yes.” “You followed me.” “To keep you alive.” Before Nita could respond, the silver-eyed Alpha raised his hand. “Enough.” Every wolf in the clearing lowered into an attack stance. “Kill the Alpha.” The forest erupted into chaos. The wolves charged. Adrian transformed in the blink of an eye. Bones cracked. His body grew larger. Black fur covered him. Within seconds, the enormous black wolf stood between Nita and the pack. He let out a thunderous roar that shook the trees. The first wolf leaped. Adrian caught it midair and threw it into another attacker. Three more rushed him. He fought with savage strength, but there were too many. Nita searched desperately for a way to help. Then she noticed something strange. A silver pendant around her neck—the one her grandmother had insisted she wear since childhood—began to glow. The light grew brighter. Brighter. Until it exploded across the clearing. Every wolf froze. Even Adrian. The silver-eyed Alpha stared at the pendant in horror. “It can’t be…” His voice trembled. “She bears the Luna’s Mark.” A stunned silence fell over the forest. Adrian slowly turned toward Nita, his golden eyes filled with disbelief. “You… have the mark?” Nita looked down at the glowing pendant, confused. “I don’t even know what it is.” The silver-eyed Alpha took a slow step back. “If the Moon Goddess truly chose her…” He looked directly at Adrian. “…then this war has only just begun.”
